Really High Fat Diets??
I'd love to learn more about these...going no grains has been awesome and I think this might be the next step for me...
I've been reading snippets here and there about folks getting up to 70% (or more??) of calories from (good ) fats. Do any of you have really high fat diets and find it feels wonderful?? If you do, what do your meals *look* like? Like, what would a day's worth of food be? I'm currently re-evaluating my fat intake and thinking of upping it. I'm not exactly sure how much I'm getting right now, but I feel like it's a good amount, but maybe not enough. I'm ust looking to learn more! Any links/blogs/references you all have to recommend would be appreciated!!

I would say my diet feels better when it is really really high fat and high protein.
I would like to see whats others say as well....
I need to use more coconut oil/milk/water. I use a TON of butter, ass much as I can squeeze in. I never skim fat off meat juices, I re-use bacon grease and beef fat and chicken fat.....but I feel the best when I am eating mostly fat and protein and a little veg./scant fruit.
Hope others respond!

I eat about 70-80% of my calories from fat. Here's a recent typical day. I'm nursing a two year old and she nurses A LOT, by the way.
Breakfast: Four eggs scrambled in about 1.5T coconut oil (shared with my dd), mug of plain tea, about a cup of berries, maybe some bacon.
Lunch: large hunk of salami with equal hunk of hard cheese, a whole cucumber with a bit of salt (shared with dd), some sauerkraut, a bit more fruit and/or a small serving of dark chocolate
Dinner: 8-10oz ribeye (pan fried in lard ), large serving broccoli with lots of butter, VERY small sweet potato (like two and a half inches long) with tons of butter, some cinnamon and a tiny bit of brown sugar
Dessert: 1/3 cup apple cider, bit of dark chocolate, a little fruit-- who knows. Whatever I can scavenge.
This equates to about 50g carbs a day and tons of fat. I also eat probably more salt than most people. I feel SO SO good. I never get sick (I always got sick before), I have tons of energy, and I'm dropping weight at a great rate without even working at it (though I do work out 2-3 days a week, mostly for fun and sanity).
Frankly, though, I'm a dietician's worst nightmare and I feel thankful I don't believe in the whole calories in/calories out business. Because I have a feeling that my daily caloric intake would shock me.
ETA: I'm pretty much paleo (besides the chocolate and bits of dairy!) due to food allergies-- I'd love to do milk but for some reason, even raw doesn't work for me. Cheese and butter in small quantities do seem okay though. Because of the allergies, I supplement my calcium and take magnesium. I also take CLO and BO on a regular basis.

Thanks blueridgewoman! I'm nursing a 2.5 yo who nurses a ton as well. Maybe I'm getting more fat than I thought--your meals today sound similar to what I eat (esp fatwise, although I use ghee and olive oil in place of butter and lots of coconut products along w/ some nuts and seeds in place of milk/cheese b/c of intolerances ). Just wondering, how much butter do you think you consume in a day?
Hmm...I may need to enter my daily meals into a fitday program or something to see how many calories are actually coming from fat!

I really don't eat much butter. I used to before I started eating low carb/high fat and I think it was because my body needed more fat and that was the easiest way. I'm not as in love with butter anymore though, and I really prefer lard or coconut oil, or even bacon grease sometimes. I do still put it on veggies, but that's about it. I'd say I use about a tablespoon a day or so.

So I put the foods I ate today in http://www.fitday.com, and had 69% of my calories from fat (more than I thought! ), 19% carbs, 12% protein. So, it seems like I'm already sort of on a much higher fat diet than I thought! I do feel amazing, and have for a while (TF rocks!), but esp. since recently dropping grains. I'm going to continue looking into all this stuff. And, from what I've read (just recently), high fat, moderate protein, low carb is ideal--my carb level is still higher than my protein, so maybe I'll look into that next!
I'd still love to hear from anyone wanting to share about high fat diets! And I'm totally going to try using fitday more often to see how much of everything I'm really getting...

Yep, dropping grains REALLY made a huge difference for me too. That's really the clincher. Even if I keep my carb count the same and substitute grains for fruit or whatever, I feel like crud.
Glad to hear it! It does sound like we eat very similarly.

I didn't realize what a difference grain free made until I tried eating some after a couple of weeks, and felt terrible...
Thanks for all your input blueridgewoman--I'll be sure to pay attention to your posts for all the good and fatty ideas!
(Gosh--if my 16 yo self could see me now, seeking all the good fats I can get my hands on! I remember giving up butter on my morning [white] bagel to lose weight around that age, eating it dry and crusty and feeling really good about myself...That's around the same time I stopped eating meat, and started *gaining* weight! If I had only known then what I know now!!!!)

Great thread! I am really trying to cut grains and am feeling pretty good. Nice to see what others are eating for inspiration. Blueridgewoman, that menu sounds pretty much like my perfect days meals (must find some decent salami at some point).
