Health and Healing - Health and Healing is a forum for discussion that reaches beyond mainstream health care norms. It embraces the wide variety of natural and alternative healing modalities as well as necessary conventional medical care. To further this aim please use the term "health care practitioner" rather than "doctor" to embrace the reality that there are other professionals out there to consult for health care needs.

huge swollen uvula (5x bigger)

hubby woke up with huge uvula (like down his throat)--I did read about uvulitis online and am not sure what to do- we are out of town for 2months and are not covered by insurance to see a dr...hubby is breathing fine and sees it as no big deal and went to internship. I. I am a little nervous as googling it of course (always) can be alarming.

he thinks it "MAY" be an allergic reaction to some nachos his brother brought him lastnight--only because he hadn't had them in a long time--but he at them at 7pm and I think it was really like 3-6am that he noticed his throat hurting then woke up with it huge. ---if this was the cause--the reaction would be over--meaning he's not going to fall over and stop breathing many hours later right?

it sounds like all other causes need anti-biotics---anyone had this happen?

just wanted to add--he did try his sleep ap machine for the first time sat night (and not again since hewants to get used to it over a weekend because he didn't sleep)--so that was 3 days ago but just in case it has something to do with it?!

any ideas? or experiences?thanks

p.s. just in CASE it has to do with a cause maybe--my kids had impetigo and one still have "folliculitis" --related? I dunno.

This happened to me ALL THE TIME and it usually goes away, at least in my cases. I would blame the sleep machine, but I never knew what caused it for me.

Sorry I'm not much help. It's really annoying to have your uvula swollen like that. It's kinda fun because you can purr, but mostly annoying
