Should I take them to the dr?

My girls (6&4) have been sick. My dd1 has had a fever since Mon evening, which has gone down since last night (I've kept it under control with ibuprofen). Now she's coughing, sneezing, and sniffling. DD2 has been the same since Tues evening, and she's still got a low grade temp.

They both have asthma.

Yesterday I called their dr to ask if dd1 could take robitussen with her clariten which she is prescribed. Dr said that she wanted to see them today to see if it's the flu, especially because they have asthma (mild) and I have a 3mo baby. I said I'd rather see what I could do at home bc I really don't want to take them out. She told me to do their nebulizer 2x a day.

I really don't want to go there if I don't have to, esp if it isn't the flu. I don't want to expose anyone in this family if I can help it.

Do you think I made the right decision?

Also 1 more question - which is better to give for a fever, ibuprofen or acetominophen? I've been giving ibuprofen.
