I think alot of women feel this way when you are in the last leg of your journey. There were a few instances in the last couple of weeks that I thought she was going to fall right out of me right then and there .
As for slowing down labor or trying to stop it there is an entire thread on here somewhere. The keys points were;
- lay down on your left side
- have a warm bath
- drink plenty of water
- sip clear alchohol (as to be clear as tanins have been thought to trigger labor)

So does that mean I can have a cup of tea and then a glass of red wine to get things going once my waters break? I think I read on gentlebirth.org about a midwife who recommended wine and got their to find a tipsy mother! She was lovely and relaxed though.

 Lovely and relaxed. That's awesome.
I wonder how many of us are going to be on the earlier side of things. I've been noticing since Septemberish that all the DDC's seem to be in a rush. Anyone else notice that? And it's not just here that I've noticed it. I'm not sure I'm ok with that. I'm prepped for it since I have assumed it since the beginning but ummm....actually being ready for it? No. No I'm not.

We're on November 5th now, and to the best of my knowledge, Emma Lane is our only baby so far, though I wouldn't be surprised if there's another preemie or two in NICU by now. I don't think we're going to be an early DDC though, but we do need to go and sort a birth announcements thread out.

must be a really strong moon this month, with so many of us having the same problems... i've attributed all of my ctx, moodiness, "back labor" feeling pains, cervical effacement, blah blah, on the moon... mine is also the very worst in the evenings. last night i almost started feeling like i had to push... but i didn't, of course... it was just so intense...
we're ucing too... and i only today got around to ordering the birth supplies. talked to the mw at the birth center i previously gave birth in and she said she'd let me get a birth kit from her if i had to and then i'd give her back a full birth kit (trading what i ordered for what i use) when i'm done... hope it doesn't come to that. i need my placenta encapsulation supplies too... ugh...
i, for one, and am not sure if i should be encouraging the early labor stuff or stopping it. i'm almost 36 weeks but i feel wholeheartedly that this boy is at least 8lbs now. if not between 8 and 9... i would like to make it to december, i have alot to do this month...

I'm due Dec 15 and also just trying to stay pregnant! This is my 3rd time with modified bedrest/early effacing dilating/early contractions
Here's what helps:
Lay down as much as humanly possible
Stay hydrated enough that your pee is almost clear
Coconut Water (they have it at Whole Foods) -- awesome! has 4x potassium of banana and cuts down on contractions
At night if my uterus has that *edgy* feeling and I'm contracting, I take a warm bath (someone recommending adding epsom salts to the bath because you can absorb the Mg through your skin and it also helps halt contractions)
I also just ordered a liquid Cal/Mag supplement to see if it will buy me a couple more weeks
Ok, and please don't give me too hard a time, but if I'm really desperate I have a 1/2 glass of wine with that bath. It really does work

I have wondered this. Now bear with me but I wonder if the moon bombing screwed up it's rythyms somehow. I've been wondering if it was going to alter it's cycles any amount, even if only by a day or so. Would be interesting if it did and that's what we're all feeling. Looking at my moon application it says the one on Monday was called the "Tree Moon". Not sure if it has any specific quirks to it or anything. I know the one for the beginning of Dec. is the "Long Night Moon" and then one at the end of the month is a "Blue Moon". I'm going to have to go google here in a second to see what their quirks have been/are.
We're ucing too and I don't have squat. I'm just barely looking at a hose and faucet adapter. Not sure when finances will allow for it though which makes me nervous as all get out about not having it. I'm set on another water birth (even though I know better ) and my tub sucks......donkey backside would be a polite way of saying it. I feel like I'm missing something but not sure what. I have clothes, diapers, a carseat. I'd like to get more fabric for a new ring sling since that's needing replaced but that's not an immediate "need" since I have other carriers. I just prefer those. I honestly have everything I need. I'm getting the short end of the stick withh "nesting" in that regards. Although my house is coming along nicely on the whole deep cleaning front. Gotta love small living spaces.

I'm joining this club, more or less...I had an OB appointment today, and I'm 1-2 centimeters dilated, soft-cervixed and 50% effaced. So while I'm still planning on making it to December, I think I've possibly been right to feel that I won't go late!

That is so interesting. Now that you mention it I do sometimes feel like I've had a rebound effect later on with the wine (even though it *definitely* works in the moment). But, yeah, sometimes a couple of hours later I'll get the edgy feeling back.
Is white wine free of tannins?
I have a hard time picturing myself throwing back some rum right now, but I read somewhere that in the old days (before they knew any better) they would just give a woman a bottle of vodka to stop labor if it was too early. Yikes!

I missed that somehow too??
But the "long night moon", that's mine! Or that's my goal anyway
The last two full moons is when my contractions have been the most crazy... this last one was the worst! It's calmed down a little, but I feel like I'm in the warmup stage for sure...

Nasa bombed the moon looking for something or other (water I think? can't quite remember). IIRC they did it in two parts, a missle style and then a man driven (though not with a man inside ) crashing. I know it was talked about in one of the other DDC's since it was done after a full moon. I'll see if I can dig anything up.

I walked around 4-5 cm dilated with my last baby, 75 per cent effaced. I delivered at about 40 weeks. So this could mean an early baby, but doesn't necessitate one.
With my previous 2 I was about 3-4 and at least 50 per cent effaced for weeks as well... and one baby was born on his edd and the other only 2 days before.

Yeah, I'm not thinking he'll go early...unless he comes early only because I'm not ready! But my mom was spot on her due dates with my brothers (she knew her conception dates except for with me because of a lot of spotting). It's just interesting seeing how similar our pregnancies have been, so I'm kind of excited to see if I'm relatively on time, too. That and it's kind of exciting to think that something's actually happening in there.

The women in my family tend to carry girl babies longer for some reason. I'm thinking because they start out small. Who knows. My mom went a month over with my sister (her first baby) though there is potential dating issues (my sister is almost 30 so u/s weren't that common). Regardless, she went over and had 2 failed inductions before she was born. I was over enough that when I started having placenta issues it was excerbated by that. I was my mom's only csection (it was a life or death thing). Just to brag my mom's birthing workhorse status for a second at the time I was born you could only VBAC if the baby was the same size or smaller than the csection baby. The baby after me was over 2 lbs bigger than me. She also went on to have twins vaginally after me. The woman was made to birth.
My sister has only had csections but with her first she was over. I went a anywhere from 7-11 days over (depending on which version of my records you read though I'm pretty sure it was 8 days) with DD1 and 2 days over with DD2. I'm hoping my trend continues and this one is 6 days less than DD2 which would mean I have it 4 days early. I'm not betting on it though.

I'm interested in seeing how I match up with my mom as well. I came during her 37th week and my younger sis came at 39 weeks. For some reason, 39 weeks is what stands out to me. I feel like the week of Thanksgiving is going to be very interesting. My mom is convinced I'm having the baby on Thanksgiving day.lol
I'm not dilated any and 50% effaced.

I don't think so, I think both red and white have them.
I have rice wine which I have sipped on and that is tannins free as far as I know.

oooooooohhhhhh!....I'm kinda dissappointed. I've been having some menstral pain for the last few weeks now...I thought for sure I might have dialated, even if just a tiny bit. But last night I did a self exam and NOTHING! I think I've started to efface though because my cervix felt close to that of an egg yolk!
