Sort of x-post: flax oil?

Is anyone taking an omega supplement? Have you tried flax oil?

The fish oil ones make me

I was thinking about trying those Expecta supplements until I saw that Enfamil makes them. Not sure how I feel about that.

Suggestions?

I was taking CLO and liked it very well. I found Rainbow Light makes a fish and flax that I ordered, it just came in today. They might have a flax only. I use their prenatal and kids vitamins and like them very much so I thought I'd give this a try as well.

Sorry, no real advice, just wanted to let you know of another brand you can look into.

I'm taking omega 3 capsules, only had a problem once when I tried to take it with no water and it got caught in my throat!

Have a look here

Flax seed oil is not a suitable Omega 3 source.
Apparantly you should go for fish, or algae derived

trade name Neuromins
When chosing a fish derived one though make sure you get a pregnancy safe one. It has to be screened for toxins and also be made from only white meat so you don't get the excess vit A that's in the livers.

I use both the fish oil pills and flax oil.

You can find flax oil in health food stores (and some vitamin stores). It will be in a refrigerated section. You need to keep it refrigerated when you take it home too. It usually has an expiration date (a few months).

From what I gather, it has just about as much omega-3 as the pills do. It has a nutty taste.

I usually add about a teaspoon or tablespoon to my smoothies when I have them in the morning. You can also add it to yogurt and stir it up real well - you won't even notice it's in there. I also will use it instead of butter on toast. Then I add jam. Can't really taste much of a difference there, either. Another idea is adding it to oily salad dressings. I've done this before, too.

Best of luck!

Just FYI... something I didn't know during my last pregnancy and learned afterwards (when it was too late)...

If you have any sort of a blood clotting disorder you should check with your care provider (a specialist would be best) before you take flax or fish oil. I have a bleeding issue that was made quite a bit worse by daily flax during my last pregnancy. It isn't a blood thinner, per se, but it was best described to me as making the platelets "slippery."

This won't be an issue for most of you mamas, but I just thought I'd share since I really wish I had known it last time. I ran my supplements by 3 MW's, an OB and a hematologist but none of them raised a red flag. I didn't know until a doctor mentioned offhand after DD's birth that he had seen something about it in a recent medical journal. I know the jury is still out and there is some conflicting information about it... so make sure you run it by your provider first.
