I've got something again/still, too. I think it's whatever dd2 had a few days ago. She spiked a fever of almost 103. I haven't, as far as I know. But, her eyes were really pink, ds2's eyes were pink/red when he was feverish. And, now my right eye looks like somebody punched me. The entire right side of the eyeball is red, not white. This bites. Driving is hard, and I can only go short distances. I think we're probably skipping Hula Hoot tomorrow...

Storm bride, you may have pinkeye too. I find it hard to drive with that.
North Shore Family Services does Christmas hampers. You deliver them to Lucas Centre on a specific day in December. We've gone through them for years, and you can decide how many people you want to do (ie: you can do a single senior, parent with one child, etc....). We always ask for a single parent with a child around Lauren's age.

Tiffani, sorry to hear about Mark's vertigo. I'm cutting out coffee here, as I find that triggers breathing/panic things. Oh, and I'm cutting out the CBC news until this swine flu panic passes.

I don't think it's pinkeye. I've had conjunctivitis before (in high school) and I was told it's just like pinkeye. This is a bit different...not as itchy, not quite as...gicky, and more painful. This isn't really painful, but it does hurt, and the conjunctivitis didn't really...just itched and oozed and drove me batty.

Thanks. I'll track down their contact info.

The only reason I'm kind of on the fence about the H1N1 shot is because we are travelling to Europe in December, so it wouldn't be a good thing for anyone of us to be sick around the time we travel..... but I think instead we will purchase (expensive!) travel cancelation insurance and move our dates if neccessary. I attended a homeopathic seminar for flu prevention/treatment and we are doing some of the things reccomended and are equipped with remedies in case of. What the homeopath said is that at the time of the Spanish Flu last century, the vast majority of the people infected, treated with homeopathy, went into a full recovery, but that never comes up in the news for some reason

On another topic, I am thinking of placing an order with Mercurius soon, and I need to order at least $250 to get wholesale prices.... which I could easily do since they have so much nice stuff, but alas, can't afford!

Please PM me if you are interested. You can go to their web site and check their catalogue.

Len, on the Mercurius stuff, where do you find out the prices?

I'm looking at the Lyres, and I'd love to find out what they sound like! And how much they are..

I ordered a couple of things from http://www.raspberrykids.com/ and she gave me a coupon code to share with first time buyers: wordofmom15 which gets you 15% off your first order over $75 until Jan 31 2010.

Well, I think I'll recognize you from the Jericho picnic, so I will at least sort of know one person there. I think we're supposed to bring food. We're celiacs, so I don't know what to bring!

Hmmm, fruit tray or veggies? I have enough trouble bringing food for Calvin-of-the-million-allergies, so that's all I'm going to manage this time.

But ummm, what time and where? homelearners.ca is down and searching on the HS-Van list is only bringing stuff up from March or earlier.

I did some digging and found this in the August thread:

Quote:
HULA HOOT ANNOUNCEMENT

HULA Hoot will be starting up again on Friday, September 11. It will take place every other Friday from 11:30 am until 3:30 pm at the Sapperton Pensioners Hall in New Westminster (directions given below).

HULA Hoot provides an activity centre for Homelearners. There are numerous tables in the hall with all sorts of activities for children of all ages. There is a section for babies and toddlers, crafting tables (knitting, Perler beads, etc), playmobil, board games, puzzles, etc. There's a coffee table for adults and in the kitchen is a huge snack table (families bring a healthy snack to share each session). It's a wonderful way to meet other homelearner families, chat with fellow homelearner parents, and have a great time!

There are TWO IMPORTANT THINGS you need to know if you are interested in coming:

1) HULA Hoot is now run as a co-operative venture. Participants are expected
to sign up to do Clean-Up for at least 2 sessions. Duties include putting away tables and chairs, boxing up activities, sweeping the floors, washing kitchen items, and generally leaving the place as we found it. Set up will be done as families arrive: instructions will be handed out to all registrants. You may also volunteer to organize a specific crafting activity (we will pay for supplies).

2) Registration will take place on the first day and will be handled by myself, Mariah Wallener, and Lisa Ishee. The
cost is $21/child (over the age of 3) for the term (September 11 – December 4; seven sessions) payable by cash or cheque. Families may instead choose to pay a drop-in fee ($5/child over 3 years old) for the sessions they do attend.

Directions: Sapperton Pensioner's Hall is located at 318 Keary Street in New Westminster, near the Royal Columbian Hospital. From Hwy 1 take the Burnett exit (south), turn right on Braid Street, left on Columbia. The entrance is around the back, via the lane. New this year parking is allowed in the Hall parking lot. If you are taking transit, the Skytrain stops at Sapperton Station where there is a wheelchair ramp (for strollers) – the station is two blocks from the Hall.

I swear by this sock pattern. http://www.knitty.com/ISSUEsummer06/...ersalsock.html

You take measurements, do a couple of simple math calculations and then you can knit socks for anyone from newborns to NBA basketball players. I've done over a dozen pairs using this pattern.

Well, we didn't make it to HH today, and it's been a while since I've checked here so didn't realize so many of you were going. VancouverLori I have never actually met you in person, though we've both been on this tribe for years now!

Anyways, I had to teach today and DH didn't end up feeling like going with the kids, so I hope it all went okay and that there were some people there who knew where things were, etc.

Well, we're off for a day of house/acreage hunting in Mission/Maple Ridge tomorrow, wish us luck!

Hola from Costa Rica and my incredibly slow internet

Good luck Mariah!! I hope you find something... on our street

Elena... part of why I chose not to vaccinate is because we are travelling and I didn't want to take the chance of lowering my kids immune systems to other stuff by getting the H1N1 vax... just something to consider too... I brought a lot of emergence C tho which I give them almost daily to make sure they get their vitamins while travelling when we arrived M and L were recovering from some kind of cold or flu and now thyey are all better

Ditto! I didn't make it, either. My eye was a bit better, but I'm far from 100%, and I figured I'd better take some downtime to recuperate. Good thing, too - by about 1:00, I had a splitting headache that never went away. I don't think Hula Hoot - or the ride home! - would have been a very good experience. Hopefully, some of the new families will be there next time.

Sigh...I always have good intentions of making it to Hula Hoot, but somehow things always get out of hand on Fridays.

Can someone post a reminder here for the next one (in a couple of weeks?)?
