Health and Healing - Health and Healing is a forum for discussion that reaches beyond mainstream health care norms. It embraces the wide variety of natural and alternative healing modalities as well as necessary conventional medical care. To further this aim please use the term "health care practitioner" rather than "doctor" to embrace the reality that there are other professionals out there to consult for health care needs.

Cough/cold relief for toddler?

The last time my almost 2 yr old ds got a cold, I tried both Hyland's Cold & Cough and Hyland's Cough. I was unimpressed, to say the least - I didn't notice them giving ds any relief.

I'd appreciate recommendations on cough/cold relief, since the season is upon us.

My GP said not to bother with OTC cough medicine for bog standard coughs for toddlers/babies as they just don't work. Obviously if it's not improving then seek medical attention.

Someone on this board suggested this and it worked great for my toddler. He loved it and seemed to help clear his sinus's.

Thanks for the rec! Do you just give it to your child when he is starting to get sick?

I found out about it after my son already had a cold so I'm not sure. It might say in the link. Their customer service is really good and helped my track down a place to buy it. Its all natural -made in Germany. Even Walmart sells it. I would call first- it took a little bit of calling around to finally find it. The customer service person actually did it for me b/c every store I called said they had not heard of it.
Good luck-hope it helps!

I'm using this for my sick toddler as well, it's the only thing he responds to when sick.

If my toddler seems like he is coming down w something I give him extra vitamin C-Sodium Ascorbate. I also put elderberry in his drinks alot. We also go thru a ton of fresh oranges every week. Every morning we squeeze them fresh(benefit of living in FL) so thats extra vit C. Another thing as a preventative is coconut oil. I put a teaspoon in his OJ certain days. So many things to do ! Oops, forgot the green smoothies and Kefir smoothies.
If symptoms appear I start giving him Oscillio-this is something new for us. I just found out about it a few months ago and there are some threads about this topic too. Try the Sinupret- it really helped us w congestion.
