Health and Healing - Health and Healing is a forum for discussion that reaches beyond mainstream health care norms. It embraces the wide variety of natural and alternative healing modalities as well as necessary conventional medical care. To further this aim please use the term "health care practitioner" rather than "doctor" to embrace the reality that there are other professionals out there to consult for health care needs.

Eosinophilic Esophagitus

I know that this is a "Mothering Community" but this question has nothing to do with my children. My DH has EE. It can easily be controlled with the steroid inhaler but he doesn't want to do that long term. The doctors (he has seen several specialists) pretty much don't know what to do. We are thinking elimination diet (not looking forward to that) just to try. He has had an allergy test and reacted to several food groups (nuts, tomatoes, some other veggies poss. wheat.) Anyway, has anyone here had experience with this and can you share some info or point us in a direction where we can find some better answers? Thanks!

not sure if you've seen the apfed site... i haven't looked at it yet.
i don't have any family with any egid but i do have some friends with kids who are effected.. i will try to contact them to see what resources they would suggest you looking into.

I am sorry you are dealing with this. I have 2 adult friends with and drs. thought I might have it. (I don't.) They both did elimination diets which is what really helped them to find their trigger foods. One of them also has a lot of environmental allergies that seem to contribute to it. In addition to avoiding foods that trigger it, one of them takes an antihistamine and that has helped a lot. The other had his gallbladder removed because of other issues he was having and his EE improved. Not sure what the correlation is. Maybe start avoiding the foods that he reacted to on the tests and go from there. Good luck. I know it is a very frustrating thing to have.

Have you visited the EGID Yahoo forum? I was a member there several months back. People there seem to have had varying success with different things--elimination diet, enzymes, etc. Some people's EE doesn't seem to respond to these things but others do. It might be worth checking there.
