HIGH HIGH HCG LEVELS! Help!!!!

I had IVF and here are my dates to fill you in:

10/12/09 - Egg Retrieval
10/16/09 - Transfered 2 blastocysts
10/27/09 - Blood Test Confirmed Preggers. HCG/Beta results were 297.
10/29/09 - HCG/Beta results were 530
11/05/09 - HCG/Beta results were 83,000 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Okay... see the big YIKES there! The nurse called with the results and said I was doing "great" and that they wanted me to be above 50,000 ...... So Technically I am 5 weeks and 3 days preggers on the day the test was taken which was yesterday.

ANYONE PULEEEESE help me figure out why this could be so high, is this normal, etc......

Congrats on the pregnancy! Beta numbers won't tell you much for sure. Those do look similar to mine, which ended up being a twin pregnancy. However, you won't know until your u/s. If you want to obsess, check out betabase.org for the wide range of "normal" betas. I believe you use your ER date as the ovulation date to figure out how many dpo for each of your betas. Good luck!

Mine were similar at that point too, and I only have one baby. They kept commenting on how high my levels were and telling me I might be farther along than I thought (I wasn't). Nobody mentioned twins to me, though!

Congratulations!!!

Congrats on your pregnancy! Your levels looked like mine- I had numbers that were in the triplet range according to BetaBase... and it could have definitely been a possibility since I got pg with Clomid, but a u/s at 8 weeks showed one healthy hearty baby.

OH WOW! Thank goodness and THANK YOU GIRLS for your input. I have googled myself crazy this morning and didnt come up with much in that high of a range. Just glad to know others have been there. I think going through IVF has made me SUPER paranoid!!!!!! Every cramp, every non-cramp lol anything that goes on I analize over and over.

I was worried about that high number because I kept finding articles regarding Downs and high HCG.

I have ultrasound Wednesday so my fingers are crossed!!!! One or two in there..... I feel so blessed!!!!!!!!!

Well, first, congrats on your pregnancy!

As for the levels, honestly, I think some women just have high hCG levels. Mine were high in three of my four IVF pregnancies (the first, with a beta of 17, miscarried). The first was 559, with one baby. The second was over 700, with two babies, and the third was 440, with two babies. I did a ton of googling on the levels and found all that stuff on Down's too, which made me pretty nervous, esp. considering I conceived my first at 35. But I have two perfectly heatlhy girls, and the 12-week u/s on the twins I am now carrying suggests they are healthy too.

BTW, I also found a lot of research that suggests that higher hCG levels are indicative of a healthy pregnancy. I liked that research a lot!

I had off the charts HCG with dd #3...at first they thought twins but when they peaked at over a million, they believed it to be a molar pregnancy.

NOPE...one healthy baby girl, who is 6 years old now. Some women have high HCG! It usually means a healthy pregnancy! To be honest I never had my hcg taken again after that pgnancy (the only reason I did that time was because I had just had a m/c and was needing more reassurance). However it gave me a lot more stress than I bargained for, and since the levels were unexplained I actually had to be monitored by a perinatologist alongside my midwife for the entire pregnancy! I'm sure more women have high hcg than ever know, since so few actual get the blood drawn in the first place.

CONGRATS and I pray this will be a happy healthy pregnancy, birth and beyond for you and baby (ies?)!

Congratulations! (But I have no thoughts on the levels, I am not very "up to date" on those.)
