At that age we mostly used spry infant and toddler tooth gel. It doesn't need to get spit out, which made it easier. IF kiddo does fine with swishing and spitting, we used toms of main fluoride free strawberry toothpaste.

I got DD the JASON brand strawberry flavored one. It is fluoride, saccharin, and gluten free.
Oh, and her toothbrush just has Elmo on it. Nothing too fancy.

My 18 month old uses Oral-B Stages Baby Tooth & Gum Cleanser. It is also floride and saccharin free and they don't have to spit it out. She has a Colgate toothbrush meant for her age (don't know what it's called)...it was one of the few at my local store without a "character" on it (this one has ladybugs).

At 12 months we used Oral B toddler toothpaste which is flouride free and just a toddler toothbrush. Now we use Tom's Mint flouride free toothpaste.
