reflux
nak
I see a lot of mention about reflux. I wonder if Sophia has this. She gags at times. won"t sleep laying down unless i am beside her, has a disgusted look on he face at times and is swallowing. She never spits up, but has vomited 3 times. So how do you know if it is relux and what have you done?

Well, if you've made it this far without any inteventions, chances are she doesn't need any, iykwim? Personally, I find that just burping them really well, keeping them at 45 degree angle for a good 10 minutes+ after feeds helps, and something to suck on (ala binky or you) for comfort helps too.... otherwise, she'll grow out of it by the time she's sitting up (for most cases....my girls who had it badly were doing it well into their one's, but that's apparently unusual).

our son has it. he is now medicated with liquid zantac, and it has done a world of good. the reason i chose to medicate is that he was gaininig weight very slowly. like scarily slow, and he was tiny to begin with. he couldn't hardly sleep. he was in pain all the time. not to mention spitting up 20+ times a day, and quite a quantity each time too. his symptoms are vastly improved, and he is now gaining at a rate of an ounce a day.
you might want to look up "silent reflux" if you suspect your baby has reflux that is not materializing into spit up. in silent reflux the stomach acid comes up but they reswallow it instead of spitting up. just as painful though.
a major criteria for whether or not to medicate seems to be weight gain. if yours is gaining well, you might not need to worry.
also you might be able to improve her symptoms by changing your diet to avoid acid reflux triggers. i am doing this as well as the medication. i avoid all tomato products, dairy, carbonated drinks, chocolate, and anything else that seems to have a bad effect on him.
