April 2010 Congratulations, and welcome to MDC's Due Date Clubs! MDC provides these "clubs" as a place where you can come together with other women due at the same time and discuss each stage of your pregnancy. Please do take some time to read the DDC Guidelines, posted at the top of each DDC. Posts that are of interest to the greater MDC community, or that are already hosted in other forums, will be moved.

Question Stabbing pain on nipple

I hope someone can tell me what this is. I have small bumps on my nipples (the nipple itself not the areola) that from what I've read resemble milk blisters but are the same color as the rest of the nipple. Last week one was raised and looked like it was about to detach. I gentle brushed at it and it came out even more but was still attached. A few days later it collapsed and turned into a scab. Whenever anything brushed against it it felt like someone was stabbing me with a needle. It went away a couple days ago but now there's another one that looks like it's about to detach. I haven't touched this one and it's still the same color as the rest of the nipple but it hurts almost as much as the scabby one did. I have to wear a bra all the time because just my shirt shifting against it kills. I tried googling this but everything I read had to do with breastfeeding and this is my first pregnancy so I have never done any breastfeeding. My breast aren't producing any milk/fluid so I doubt it's milk related. Any ideas?

I've got no advice, but I think I'm going through something similar. There are these little white bumps on the actual nipple part and they HURT! I did breast feed DD for a little over 2.5 years, but these developed recently (she weaned about a month ago) so I think it's pregnancy related. Anyone else getting crazy nips? lol.

I am not sure what is going on with the bump detaching etc. but I have had a few days during this pregnancy where I felt like someone had rubbed sandpaper over one of my nipples and it was so uncomfortable. I also have been noticing some stuff that looks like dried colostrum on my nipples every now and then. I had this soreness occasionally during my first pregnancy and then I had a lot of nipple soreness during the first few weeks of breastfeeding. I think it's a pretty normal pregnancy thing and some people are just a lot more sensitive than others, but since you've been getting the scabs forming I think it wouldn't hurt to have your dr or midwife take a look.

I think I figured out what I have. I think they are skin tags that are getting irritated because they are on the very tip of my nipples and my clothes are rubbing against them and pulling them off little by little. I didn't think that was what they were because skin tags aren't suppose to be painful but apparently they can be painful if they are irritated. I think the severity of the pain is because it is on such a nerve rich area. If the are still there on the 20th, when I see my midwife, I will check with her. I hope they're gone by then though I hate having to wear a bra to bed.
