Question Sharp breast pain

Hi,
I've been feeling kindof like I've been fighting a cold for the past few days. Been under lots of stress with vax stuff for my nearly 5 mo Ds and pressure from his ped, plus the exhaustion of feeding my baby constantly. I know I'm run down to begin with but yesterday and today I've noticed sharp pain in one breast. I don't have any red spots. It hurts when I nurse, like a stabbing kind of pain, and sometimes when I'm just walking around I get a pain in the breast too. I've been massaging to try to find the spot while nursing, wondering if it's a plugged milk duct.

Could it be the beginning of mastitis? Please please please help me stop the progression. I was on IV abx right after birth due to a uterine infection and I really don't want to go on again if I can at all avoid it.

I'd be so grateful for any advice.

Penny

Hi Penny,

I get sharp pains (like being stabbed with a thin needle) in my breast whenever I have a plugged duct and that has been happening for the past 3 months now. The pain can happen anywhere and anytime. However, I've never had mastitis. Phytolacca decandra, a homeopathic med for sore throat, has been very helpful. It usually clears it up in a few days for me. I've read that taking lecithin supplements also helps if it is a recurrent problem for you.

good luck.

I get that with yeast. It is possible that you are starting to get some thrush. There are simple steps you can take that generally help almost immediately, and certainly within a week:
1. Wash your breasts with an apple cider vinegar solution after each feeding (1 part cider vinegar to 5 parts water; dilute more if it stings too much) and let them air dry if possible.
2. Take probiotics and give an infant probiotic to your baby.
3. Avoid sugars and refined carbohydrates.
The first two will help prevent you and your baby from passing the thrush/yeast back and forth and help prevent your baby from developing oral thrush, as well as helping your breasts feel better.
The second and third will help your body beat back the yeast.

Thanks so much for the ideas. Funny you should mention pro-b. I just ran out about 2 weeks ago, so I wonder if that has opened me up again for yeast. Good ideas, thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
