Favorite fabric for fitteds?

(xposted in diaper making)

I'm making some fitteds/contours and I need to decide what I want for fabric for the inner/outer layer and for the inside. I'm planning on using Snappis as a fastener.

Right now I'm looking at some flannel, some cotton/bamboo french terry, and some prefold twill.

Preferences? Suggestions?

TIA

Hi Beck,

Flannel doesn't snappi too well. And the bamboo french terry doesn't snappi so well after a while either (I have one I made I've been using for about a year and I can't snappi it anymore). Bamboo feels very soft at first, but tends to feel not so soft after a while.

The gauze works very well but takes a lot of layers!

I like to use hemp/cotton blend the best, but that's just personal preference!

Another thing you could do is use flannel or the bamboo and put a snappiable layer on the outside, like an old t-shirt, pique cotton (think recycled polo shirt) or thermal (waffle weave).

Good luck! Let us know how they turn out!

I found some nice organic cotton french terry. Of course it's a bit more than just plain old flannel, so this is what I was thinking.

I could make a prefitted out of either the LL UBPFs or the GMD organic (or even regular) PFs but use the terry for the inner and outer layers (loops out on the inside and knit out on the outisde for Snappi-ing) and make a turned and topstitched prefitted. Is that weird? Would that even work? Should I just buy cheap flannel or diaper twill?

Also, I'm reconsidering the Snappi thing. I think it'd be great for adjustability in the non squirmy stage, but I think I'd like to make the medium and up size in side snap. What's your opinion on that?
