sigg bottles

FYI. (Don't know if it ever was in Mothering Magazine's topics): I once read a thread here on mdc on alternative water bottles and some people mentioned bpa free SIGG bottles. I never had any myself, but it appears that these bottles actually have never been bpa-free (there's been bpa in the lining of the bottles).

They will exchange them for a non-bpa bottle if you send it in to them.

Has anyone else who sent theirs in actually heard back from SIGG? I sent mine in on 9/3 and have not heard a thing.

There's a thread on this in family safety, you might check there to see if anyone has heard anything.

For anyone who hasn't sent their bottles in yet, some retailers are doing exchanges/refunds. The thread in family safety has some discussion of this. I was able to exchange mine at Sports Basement.

I just heard back. They gave me a $22 credit, but I used it for a $29 bottle because I wanted a steel one instead of aluminum. When I put in the code that they sent me, I did not have to pay the difference. I have not received the bottle, however - and they did say that if I exceed the $22 it will delay shipping (fine with me)

Update - I finally heard back less than a week after I posted this thread, and the new bottles took less than two weeks to arrive.

Back when Mothering did that big story on BPA's and all sorts of other things (a couple years ago???), I told DH that I wanted us to switch to stainless bottles (we were re-using the occasionally bought water bottles) after I read the aricle out loud. So next time we were in the health food store, he went over to the SIGG display. As soon as he got to the part about their safe lining which they would not disclose, he said that they could kiss his butt.

We bought plain, unlined, non-famous stainless bottles in the end. Love them.

I thought there was something funny about our SIGG. the water tasted weird after being in the bottle for a day ( like filled up before an outing to children's museum, if you would drink it on the way home, it tasted funny.) I stopped using it. I was able to switch the bottle at the store I purchased if from but honestly, I don't trust them and use that bottle only in emergencies (i.e. all the other bottle haven't been washed and I need one! )
