Deciding between sized covers and one-size covers
We're just coming out of an abusive relationship with our BumGenius 3.0. I've given up on them, and am hoping to return to prefolds for their absorbancy, ease of cleaning and price. A friend just sent me several brand new Bummis Whisper Wrap covers for the prefolds (yes. Just gave them to me ), and I had previously been considering a couple of one-size covers (Mommy's Touch, and something else I can't remember). Mostly, I'm looking for opinions about one-size covers versus ones that are "sized". I like the idea of the OS, but am tired of trying things that end up being so ineffective.

I plan to hav a few of both. I have a few Econobums and flips one size covr (and diapers) I love them so far and having a few that will overlap sizes ect I think is great but sometiems I jsut want something perfectly correctly sized so having a few sized covers is nice as well.

If I were trying new things--WHICH I AM NOT, NOT, NOT--*slaps self*--I would try both a Mommy's Touch OS and a Thirsties Duo in addition to the tried and true BSWW.

How does the velcro hold up? That was a major problem with the BG, which breaks my heart because my son is such a wiggler during dipe changes that snaps are a nightmare.....

I made mine using the Very Baby pattern. They're not one-sized. We used them on DD for 23 months before she potty learned and are using them again on DS. So far, they've held up very well!

There are WonderWraps one size covers which are velcro for the closure and snap for the size adjustment. If you want to stay away from velcro Mommy's Touch has a snap version.

All of my Thirsties covers have held up well. I'm digging the duo wrap right now because I can use the same size on my 3 mo. old and my 2.5 y.o.! And it fits them both nicely.
I have had velcro wear out on me on various things (not the Thirsties yet, though) and it's really not too hard to replace. If you sew or know someone who does, you can buy some aplix online and fix it yourself. I've also heard that bumgenius will send you the velcro repair kit if you request it...

we have os covers that I've never snapped down, but that's because DS wears MEOS (not snapped down) lined with a prefold under it so DS runs around with a big fluffy bottom :P If I need a trim fit he's in his pocket diapers. So I guess it depends on what you are using underneath though I wouldn't put an OS on a newborn

Hmm, I hadn't heard of the Duo wraps, but I loved the Thirsties sized covers. The velcro holds up excellently....possibly because it has real velcro laundry tabs instead of the *whatever it is* that BG uses, since the velcro doesn't come in contact with the skin on a cover, it's not an issue.
Anyway, glad to know about them, i think I'll check them out for the new babe. I am hating the BGs right now too. They have messed up the fold-over elastic on some of the new pull-up trainers I got for dd (from laundering together).

Another vote for Thirsties Duo Wraps! They are great for laying a prefold in, and they fit my 25lb 2yo very well snapped down on setting. We've been using them regularly for several months with no problems whatsoever, and even bought more when we found a shop that carried them while on a trip!
I do love Bummis SWW and always have, so if you want cute prints, they're a great one.

we have lots of different kinds. i think the os covers fit dd just as well as the sized covers! my two favorites are the thirsties duo and the blueberry coveralls cover. the velcro is holding up great on both of these and they really do fit so well! we got them when dd was 2.5 moths old and 11 lbs.

We've been really pleased with the Thirsties covers overall, but had some issues with the Duo Wraps.
We have normal Thirsties and some Duo Wraps. The size 1 of the Duo Wraps fit our little guy EXACTLY the same as the XS Thirsties. Both of them fit him up to about 14 lbs-- two pounds higher than the XS recommended, and four (!) pounds less than the size 1 Duo Wraps said they'd fit. So for us, the size 1 Duo Wraps ended up being more or less totally pointless. We didn't get to use them any longer than our sized covers.
On the other hand, the size 2 Duo Wraps have been great for us. He's STILL growing like crazy and will probably be out of the size S wraps in a couple more weeks, but he's still on the smallest setting for the size 2 Duo Wraps and we can still cross the velcro over.
So, if you have a bigger baby, you might just skip the first size and go right to size 2. Maybe long skinny babies can really fit those things to 18lbs though.

I like the blueberry coveralls sometimes (seems to depend what it underneath it) but I really am NOT a fan of the mommys touch one size. They don't seem to fit well on any setting with my kids.
