Isn't Parsley Coriander's cousin?

Hi,

I am a bit confused. I eat quite a bit of coriander/cilantro in my diet and read in many websites that coriander is a galactogue (One of Mother's milk teas has it too, I think).

At the same time, parsley is supposed to be an anti-galactogue (if you will) and inhibits milk production (like mint does). But I thought both were almost the same family (like spearmint and peppermint (or are these the same ))?

Can someone well-versed in herbs enlighten me please? TIA

EDIT...yeah like I thought : http://www.tealand.com/ForWomen.aspx

You're right about parsley and coriander/cilantro - they both belong to the carrot family (Apiaceae, formally the Umbelliferae). Celery does too (but I haven't ever heard of it being used to boost or supress milk supply.)

Plants in the same family often have some of the same traits (for example these Apiaceae grow in the same 'style'), and often do share some of the same or similar natural chemicals, but then again each plant has different chemicals too - which can lead to different effects in the human body.

That's as good as I can come up with right now - hope it makes sense!
