how to remove fluoride
My city puts fluoride in the water. Water are some of the most economical ways to remove fluoride until I can purchase one of the nicer $600-1000 filters.

I was just reading up on this in the book Healing with Whole Foods--I haven't tried or researched the method since we don't have fluoridated water, but I respect the source tremendously, so it's worth checking into. It says to mix a teaspoon of Dr. Bronner's Calcium-magnesium powder into a gallon of charcoal-filtered water. The calcium combines with the fluoride and forms calcuim-fluoride which sinks to the bottom, and is, apparently, harmless in small doses. Use the water off the top. Worth looking into at the very least... HTH.

we just bought and installed this one ($340 on sale right now):
http://www.freedrinkingwater.com/ro-90-detail.htm
there is a lot of water "wasted" to carry out the things that are removed (al RO works this way) so we are trying to figure out logistics to drain the water water to the flower beds
water tastes great...easy to install
water tested from tap has about 280ppm solids and water from our RO has about 20ppm...the RO water we've bought at Whole Foods for the last 5 years has 8ppm, BTW
they have one that is a little slower for about $40 less, too
HTH!

Why oh why does our city have to fluoridate our water????
We have, for the past 3 years, been having bottled water delivered to us int he big 5 gallon bottles from a local company that has fluoride-free water. But, I really want to get away from the plastic bottles, and its costing about $50/month....that adds up fast!

Anyway to remove the fluoride but leave the minerals intact? Any filter I've ever known to remove the fluoride also removes minerals from the water.

Well, the friends of water filter that I linked above says that it removes the 'bad' stuff while leaving the healthy trace minerals intact. I'm not totally sure *how* they do that, though.

We were getting bottled water, too. We bought a house in an area that has a community well, and though they do add chlorine, they do not add fluoride, so I was so happy! Can't afford to buy a decent filter yet, but there is not as much of a need, with no fluoride, anyway....
