Clomid and HCG Trigger Shots...and Other ???
Hello ladies. We are ttc#4 and have suffered from secondary infertility with #2, #3, and now #4. We are on 200mg of Clomid and Dr is reccomending a HCG trigger shot. This will be month 3 on Clomid....one month at 150mg, last month at 200mg. Problem is that DH has cut me off after this month (I developed a 4cm cyst on my ovary from the last cycle). What does the HCG shot do? Will it increase the liklihood of success? Does HCG increase the lilihood of multiples? I have really bad gestaional diabetes when I am pregnant with one baby...I am worried about the effect it might have on the baby if there is more then one....though I would still feel so blessed to have twins. Thanks for any advice.

From what I've read the trigger shot helps the follicles mature further and loosens their connection to the ovary, i.e. it's suppose to trigger ovulation. It's possible to take clomid and not ovulate, so docs do this to help that out. I don't think it would affect your chances of multiples at all.
good luck.

It forces you to ovulate - it simulates LH (which is what causes ovulation) and forces any mature eggs to pop. It helps increas success in that it ensures that you DO ovulate. IT does not increas the probability of multiples any more than clomid does becuase it only will force you to ovulate what mature follicles have been produced by the clomid.
With DD2 I was on clomid, had a trigger shot for 2 mature follies and was on progesterone and still only one babe.
Good Luck!

Just curious, but why did your doctor prescribe such high doses of clomid? In all my research and experience, the most I've ever heard of going up to is 150mg. Is the high clomid related to the cyst?
The trigger shot is really helpful as it pinpoints ovulation.
