Does Kombucha suppress thyroid function?

Someone I know was reading up on kombucha online and told me that KT suppresses thyroid function. This sounds highly unlikely to me, and I asked her for the link to where she read this (still waiting on a response from her about that).

If you have any information about KT and thyroid, please link me!

I don't know about KT, but there's a blurb about kombucha suppressing thyroid functions at the bottom of this page on the Happy Herbalist, which sells kombucha mushrooms/starter kits.

However, Kombucha Tea in pregnant, nursing and with babies where normal demand for these minerals are higher the issue is critical. The same warnings are applied to Soy Milk and Soy products. Kombucha Tea and Soy products deplete calcium and reduce the thyroid function, and therefore are not advised to be given at this time.
Yikes. Thats enough to keep me from drinking it if its true

I find that very hard to believe, that Kombucha Tea would suppress thyroid function. Maybe he's thinking if you use tea with fluoride, the fluoride could suppress thyroid? I don't know, but that's the only possible connection I could come up with.

I have thyroid problems (subclinally hypo) and have only felt better since I started drinking kombucha. I did a quick google search and the Happy Herbalist site was the only place I saw any claim that KT would suppress thyroid. And I notice he doesn't provide any kind of source to back up that claim.

Everything else I've read says KT nourishes the body so it can put itself back into the proper balance and heal itself of various ailments and imbalances.
