No More Tests: Five Ways To Take Action

African Quinoa Soup
This soup is great topped with some red onions and a big handful of sprouts!

test sheet1. Go to www.NoMoreTests.com. On this site, you can get all the information, resources, local links, and research you need to start taking action.

2. Get together and start the dialogues. Hold an informal meeting of as many potential constituents as possible. This could include students, parents, teachers, administrators, or community activists. Let people air and share their thoughts about testing. Then find out the details of testing in that area and plan what work needs to be done.

3. Consider a boycott of the tests. Although not the only way to get active, opting out of the exams can be amazingly effective when a large enough group of students, backed up by a community of activists, participate.

4. Be a creative activist on test day. There are numerous ways to get media attention. Ask your elected officials to take the tests along with the students; wear testing-related costumes or bring banners to the school; hold a press conference with the students.

5. Demonstrate what real learning looks like. On test day or any time of the year, make it known that the reason you're against testing is because you're for learning. So, open those books, weave those sweaters, start that local business, hold down that volunteering post, and show what happens when tests don't stand in the way of a real education.
