My Amish Paste tomatoes started off strong but have been wiped out by fusarium wilt, but the Mortgage Lifters are still lookin good! I need to pick a resistant variety of canning ones next year, maybe Rutgers? Tell me what varieties have thrived for you without picking up diseases? Not just tomatoes either, if you have other things you love. I want a foolproof garden next year.

Work on bulking up the soil so it's healthier?

If my plants start doing goofy stuff, it's usually because something's missing - calcium in the soil (blossom end rot), phospate, all those fun fancy words.
That said, yes, some varieties are more prone to things....  Romas and... yellow pear tomatoes? with BER, some heirlooms are more prone to cracking shoulders especially if you get a bunch of rain all at once.  I'm a fan of survival of the fittest.  So I tend to save seeds from my yard, and if they keep doing well in my yard, rock on.  Bonus is that I don't really need to buy much, if any, seeds much anymore.   :D
