I have a couple of beautiful low hanging trees (crab apples, i think, or a close relative) in my yard, and I'm wondering if anybody knows of some good flowering hanging baskets that would do well hanging from a tree with pretty dark shade?

Fushias do well in the shade. Just make sure you get the variety that hang down, not the upright ones.

I second the fushia. But, be ready to water it everyday, somedays twice, or it will die. They are one of my favorite flowers! I have also had luck in growing impatiens in hanging baskets, they do very well in the shade too.
