We have been composting for a couple of years now. Last year I ran into a big problem with skunks, possums, etc stealing all of the compost. I mean I guess I don't mind since it's better than going to a landfill. But, the compost bin is right next to my chickens (and soon to be goat) so I would rather not have the animals hanging out there. Plus, I want that compost for me. Right now the compost bin is 3 pallets and then I threw some old chicken wire on the top and in front. The animals seem to dig right around that though. I know they sell compost things for like $100 but we can't spend that right now. Any other suggestions? Thanks

I bought my compost bin for $40 from our State Extension Office. Worth the $ and was able to have a full bin of compost in 6 months with turning it only 4-5 times. http://www.composters.com/docs/bins_p3.html#hc is the one I have.

I use a metal garbage can with holes drilled into it. Total cost was under $20 and took less than 20 minutes.

modern-mama to DS (5.16.05) and DD (9.11.08) and one more (GIRL!) coming in December
