air bubbles in my freshly canned pickles - Mothering Forums

crap. does this mean i cant eat them now? i thought i got rid of all the air bubbles..its hard with pickle slices!! and i thought i had the jars full but now that they have been processed there is tons of space below heres a pic:

That's normal. When you pack the jars pack what you can in, then use a spatula & go around the edges & between the pickles as much as you can to get rid of air space. You can often put more cucs in after that & then fill them.

As long as the lid popped & is sealed they'll be fine to eat.

Oh, yes, they always look like that at first, especially if you cold pack. They should plump up and sink down after a couple of weeks. If you're really concerned, give them a good shake to get all the air to the top. The worst that will happen is a little browning on the pickles at the top from air exposure.

They look pretty! Good job!
