White Flower Farm - looks like a good one except I don't see safe seed pledge
Exciting Gardens - Richard Owen Nursery - didn't see the safe seed pledge
Michigan Bulb Co. - no safe seed pledge, look like they are owned by a co. that also own gurney's - also the place has an Indiana address not in Michigan
Burgess Seed & Plant Co. - also, owned by the same company as Michigan bulb and Gurney's/no safe seed pledge
High Country Gardens - couldn't find safe seed pledge
Honey Creek Nurseries - also owned by the same monopoly as the others, probably why you get all thier catalogs
Gurney's Seed & Nursery Co. - owned by a monopoly, same as above

Looks like a good one. It is an Alaska based company that only sell wholesale though so you have to find a local nursery that sells Denali seeds. You might ask them to sign the safe seed pledge.

Can anyone tell me which of these companies (if any) are in California? More specifically in Northern California? I'd love to be able to support a local business.

Thanks! - Robyn

On the first post on this thread, could the OP or Admin. add an asterisk by Territorial with this info? That would be helpful so people who take the list of non-Monsanto companies w/o reading through the whole thread will have all of "the facts."

I am glad I found this forum!

I order from Baker Creek and they are excellent. Shipping is very fast, the catalog is very descriptive, and they are very anti-Monsanto. They just changed their seed packages to where they all have a picture of the plant you're trying to grow on them and the planting instructions too. Love them! The selection is so big that I don't feel the need to buy seeds elsewhere.

I would highly recommend trying out the Tigger Melon next summer. It's a fun little vine to grow and the fruits are small and beautiful - like you're own tiny cantaloupe only prettier.

Oh, I love baker creek. I love the smell of Tigger Melon, oh so good. I didn't think they tasted that great, but they smell so yummy when you walk by them.

From what I gleaned from dave's website they are a really good company. Owned by mennonites so you know they have good seed.

Johnny's seeds is posted under Maine as one that has taken the "safe seed pledge" However, you also have Johnny's on the other thread, the one that lists companies that does have ties to monsanto.

If that link is correct, then Johnny's should be removed from the other thread.

Thanks.

I'm wondering too...last 2 years I have bought from botanical interests and had great seed germination rates ( plus they are availible in local stores). I could have sworn I saw it on the safe seed list last year...but now its not...or I'm having a mommy brain moment and its there and I am not seeing it.

Subbing. Great thread, thanks!

I am in the northeast and have had great success with Kitchen Garden Seeds (quality and quantity for the $) and herb plants from Richters. Can't wait to try Wood Prairie Farm--I am looking their site over right now.

It's really disappointing to find that Seeds of Change is owned by a big company. I liked their stuff. It doesn't surprise me though, they have a pretty big line of food products that would be attractive to a conglomerate for "greenwashing" their image.

Not sure why that is not on a list. I think it is one that sells Seminis seed, but not sure. Will go check.

Rupp carries semini's seeds, but unsure about the rest. Could you e-mail them and ask, then report back here to tell us if they are ok.

Does anyone know anything about the seeds that Whole Foods sells? I purchased some Ferry-Morse seeds which are "organic", only to read the post from someone in this thread that they may not be linked to Monsanto, but they are doing genetic engineering. Bummer.

So I'm trying to get some seeds which are easy to come by. I was planning to start my seeds today.

So, are the Whole Foods seeds safe? Anyone know the name?

Thanks!
