Anyone out there plant winter gardens? I have never planted one... to be honest, I'm not sure I will want to be outside tending to a garden in the winter... but I am very tempted to plant at least something this fall. I live in the Sacramento area... any suggestions on what I should try??? I always have summer vegetable gardens... and flowers all the time.
Hi there, I am a University of California Master Gardener in Los Angeles and I can tell you that the Cooperative Extention office can give you a great list of things to be grown in your area all winter long.
A few off the top of my head are brocolli, cauliflower, onions, leeks, cabbages, kale, carrots, beets, lettuce,... heck I'm still growing tomatoes and a few stalks of corn down here. The website address for the CE is:
