Have been thinking of stopping using shampoo and using baking soda instead.  However, in reading a blog post about it, a commenter mentioned that it won't work if you have hard water (which I do).

Any experience?

We have hard water here. I just started with BS washes about 2 weeks ago. I tried using white vinegar (I don't have any ACV), and it seemed like it made my hair greasier faster, so I stopped. I'm interested to see what others have to say, too! It's a new venture for me!

I'm not sure it would work.  I don't have soft water, but its not really hard either and I can do no poo just fine.  Although I switched to using dr bronners liquid castile soap to wash my hair and face and thing were great.  However when I went home for the holidays to my mom's VERY hard water, my skin and hair got really gross.  I finally had to change up my routine because I seriously didn't feel clean.

i've never done the bs/acv in hard water long term though so this is just me guessing.  bs/acv works equally to dr bronners for my hair at home so I figure it would translate similarly to the hard water at my mom's.

We have really hard water (drives me crazy, leaves a film on all our drinking glasses and such) and I changed how I shampoo back in early November.  I use shampoo once a week (Avalon organics because its what I had) and water only the rest of the week.  It has been working well for me.  I've tried a baking soda wash/ACV rinse a couple times and it makes things worse than water only.  This week when I start to get icky feeling, I'm going to try just ACV and leave it on for a bit and see how that goes.  I think I've gotten past the greasy point and its just the hard water making it icky because my hair is back to its normal color.

I get this white gunk on my scalp, which I think is caused by our hard water. I didn't feel like baking soda was helping it at all. However, I do like the results of the Dr. Bronners soap that treeoflife3 mentioned. I find it better than shampoo.
