i teach pelvic exams to med students. we have two teachers to four students, and we take turns modeling while we teach, and the students get to learn the exam on us. anyway the reason i am telling you this is because that means i get to see my cervix on a regular basis. I just started this job at the beginning of the month, and ive noticed each time ive seen my cervix its been really red and friable looking. I dont have any smell or wierd discharge. I havent seen my cervix since i gave birth 9 months ago so i dont know how long it has been red. I have had pain with sex ever since i gave birth. do you think i have an infection????? if so, what should i do? garlic suppositories? any advice would be appreciated- id like to avoid antibiotics if possible.
i know i should get looked at by a mw, but im such a procastinator about stuff like this.

I really have no idea...you could probably just ask a midwife about it as a first step...
It might be normal...???
Maybe post this question over in birth and beyond, or the health and healing forums?

No, I do not think you have an infection. I can't remember what this is called, but it is TOTALLY normal after giving birth. (Shoot -- wish I could remember the name of it). My cervix stayed that way, (red, dry and irritated with sex) until my period came back (5 months post-partum in my case). I wouldn't have known it was red, but my ob told me. He said it was very normal, ESPECIALLY if you are nursing. I think it's nature's way of keeping us unfertile for a bit after having a baby. The only thing that sucks, is that sex hurts with this very normal condition. So, I hope your period (and natural lube) returns to you soon -- and the pain will go away, presto!
