We are soon to be moving into a very old house. The whole place was practically destroyed by previous tenants, so before we move in it will be totally re-carpeted, (the wood floors were unsalvagable ) re-painted, new everything. I am glad of it, as I hate living in other peoples' dirt, but how long should we wait for the chemical fumes of the carpet, paint, and woodworking to clear before we move in? I am so anxious to move in straight away after it's ready, but I know that for our dd's sake, we should wait, but how long?

Just your typical non-theistic, liberal, blended family.

Thank you, Mothering, for the past twelve years of support and community. I look forward to many more.

I'm not sure how long, but I think the best thing to do would be to make sure that the house is airing out by leaving the windows and doors open as much as you can. And get alot of house plants to help remove the toxins from the air.
