could you put a couple drops of tea tree oil or lavender essentail oil in cocunut oil for a baby's bottom? would that be too strong? my son has had some very bad bouts of diarrhea and have found that aquaphor was the only thing that helped heal and protect his skin from the acid in the diarrhea...but my gut told me to use the cocunut oil sitting on the shelf...Also, what is the shelf life of cocunut oil? what does it smell like when it goes rancid? I put some on my baby and really didn't like the smell. It didn't smell like cocunuts--it smelt a little odd--something in me was like "ooh, i don't know if i should put that on him again..." what is it supposed to smell like?

What kind of coconut oil do you have? Different brands smell either sweet or somewhat off.
It keeps for years without going bad.. but if it's gotten wet, the water can grow mold.

A few drops of eo will be perfect antifungals and not too strong, maybe you could check out the diapering forum for some ideas/recipes.

And, I highly recommend probiotics to help heal diarrhea from the inside.
