I am looking for natural ways to deal with ants in the house. I have done a thorough cleaning. I am trying to keep everything covered. Any suggestions on how to deal with the ones that are here? Thanks.

Someone told me that cinnamon works well and I've also heard that any kind of powder works. So today- not wanting to waste my cinnamon- I realized that I have a huge container of chili powder, so I sprinked some on the huge swarm on our patio (not sure what attracts them- they just come up through the cracks). When I went out an hour later, all the ants were gone.

I do a 50/50 mixtur of borax and sugar, in a small container, with just a drop of water because wet sugar seems to attract them the most. I, set it where I think they come in. In no time no more ants, and they've ben gone for almost two years. Interesting to hear about cinamon and chilli powder. If I have a problem with them again I'll try that, probably way less toxic a way to repel/kill them.

boil whole cloves in water, pour the water into a squirt bottle (without the cloves) and spray whereever they are entering. It will stain fabrics.

Mom of a 7 yr old, 4 yr old, and 1 yr old. Wow. How did that happen?

coffee grounds repel ants. We put our used grounds by our doors, windows, and in the trash to deter ants. We have had very few ever come in our house.

The chili powder only worked where I sprinkled it, and the ants came back after a couple of days. I think I'll try the borax and sugar.

I don't think anything works, I'm so bummed. I tried cayenne pepper, cleaned with Dr. Bronners, they never left. So I bought some ant traps last night and they didn't even work!

I posted about this about 2 weeks ago and the BRILLIANT Mamas here helped me so much!

We had tons of ants coming in our front door (well a crack by the front door). I mean it...TONS. I was so grossed out!

Anyway, someone here suggested instant grits. Apparently the ants eat them and carry them back to the nest but they can't digest them (sound so cruel!). You can buy them in the cereal aisle of the grocery store (by the instant oatmeal).

I am telling you...after 2 days....NO MORE ANTS! It's amazing!

We poured tons of the grits where they were entering the house. They crawled over it for a day or two and then we vacuumed it up and they were gone!

I tell everyone this now because I love it that a natural treatment like this works so well! I think pretty much everyone I know IRL just reaches for the RAID.

Now go get some grits!
