I thought I already posted this but can't find it so I'll try again....

I bought the Tom's of Maine toothpaste- silly strawberry and it is flouride free. I just read the rest of the label and it says sodium laurel sulfate derived from coconut oil. What does this mean, is it safe to let my toddlers use this? Thanks!

As far as I know SLS no matter where it comes from is not good/carcinogenic, but don't quote me. As a rule, I stay away. Burt's Bee's makes a good children's toothpaste (and adult toothpaste too) fluoride free with no SLS: http://www.burtsbees.com/webapp/wcs/...ubCategory=yes

Here is my post on a previous SLS discussion:

I personally would NOT use SLS on my kid. There are plenty of alternatives out there.

Burt's bees is a good product. I have not used it though. Currently I use Weleda for my babe. They make good nontoxic, natural products.

Weleda toothgel for kids: http://www.vitacost.com/WeledaChildr...rchtext-weleda

If you are searching for an adult toothpaste, Jason's makes a few that do not have sls or fluoride..read the label though:

Weleda also makes a toothpaste too.

Another non toxic toothpaste that I've never tried: http://www.webdeb.com/oils/toothpaste.htm

I thought I had researched things well and when I bought the grape one of tom's of maine and saw it had sls in it..I was perturbed. I also didn't like TOM's statement of "well it's not proven so we include it in our products" attitude. There are a lot of things that aren't "proven" the way mainstream likes things so black and white yet it doesn't mean they aren't harmful. Besides, mainstream proving things typically takes 15 yrs or so to get with the times and I don't have that type of time for them to get it straight.
