Apple cider vinegar vs. white vinegar - Mothering Forums

What's the difference in the two? Most cleaning recipes call for white, and the bottle of acv lists recipes while the white does not. Is it just made with apple cider, maybe so it's better in recipes?

Well, when you're using it for cleaning purposes, you need the white because it's - white. It would be pretty hard to clean something if you were wiping red vinegar all over it! White vinegar is a great all-purpose (cooking & cleaning) vinegar so that's all I buy. You can use it in your laundry to remove traces of detergent and as a natural fabric softener and as an all-purpose house cleaner. It's great if you have kids, you don't have to worry about all the chemicals in purchased cleaners. And it's just fine for the normal cooking uses too.

As for apple cider vinegar, I don't think you could use it for much more than cooking.

Apple cider vinegar offers more health benefits than white and add a nice sweet and sour flavor to recipes. White is typically used for cleaning and pickling. Some recipes call for white vinegar, but apple cider is preferred to white for the health benefits.
