I am going to make my 1st batch of laundry soap this weekend (if I can find washing soda, which I'm not having any luck). And I was Going to use the Fels Naptha recipe and was wondering if it will make our clothes smell good or if anything needs to be added for the smell??
I usually put a couple drops each of eucalyptus, lavander or orange essential oils into the wash with the hommade detergent.... in my experience though , your clothes will never smell near as much as even the lightly scented regular clothing detergents!
Most citrus oils are top notes, meaning the scent does not linger for very long (unless it's a synthetic scent). Also, a lot of essential oils have their own natural solvent-like chemical compounds, or have man-made/artificial solvents (so that it's cheaply made and it doesn't cost an arm and a leg) that evaporate quickly.
Try something that is a base note, maybe you'd have more luck.
since I switched from chemical soaps to more natural/home made, I am very happy to have no scent in my laundry. my clothes smell clean but not having a scent associated with them in nice.
Actually, I know what you mean. If I wash my clothes in baking soda only, it smells salty like they were near the beach. I love it! I stick my nose in it for a few moments and imagine I'm in Miami
