I'm wanting to get each member of my household their own re-usable water bottles - and stop buying water in bottles altogether.

Can anyone here give me a recommendation for the best product? I've seen bi-carbonate -- and I've also seen stainless steel. Is there something else? What is the best and why? Any place to buy 'em cheap?

Thanks in advance.

Well, I've done a fair bit of research and decided to get a SIGG. I just ordered it the other day so I haven't tried it out yet, but I got mine at the swiss knife store online and they offered free shipping.

I think Sigg and Klean Kanteen are widely regarded at the best, safest, most durable reusable bottles. Anything plastic is suspect.

Why did you decide on SIGG?

I got sigg ones for each person, though there's a klean kanteen co-op going on here too, if you check out the co-op forum. I'm gonna get a few as well.
Though I'm not sure what the diff is, besides outer design and (I think) wider opening. I was wondering if someone who has both could enlighten me.

Erm...they're prettier? Seriously, that's why we chose ours. I trust the research of both the manufacturers, I just like the Sigg styling better. The KK co-op is actually going on off-site, but if you go to Yahoo! Groups and search nflcoop you should come up with the group site.

They are extremely cute! I just checked reusablebags.com and they still have some sigg bottles in each size on clearance- so a few dollars cheaper.

I think the Siggs are lighter, they are coated aluminum. The Klean Kanteen are stainless steel.

We prefer the Kleen Kanteen over the Sigg. The Sigg are prettier and lighter, but harder to clean and can develop a certain smell to them, which is hard to eliminate. Also, the Sigg bottles can break (3 bottles in 10 years), which has not happened to my Kleen Kanteen (yet). Further, the Sigg needs little rubber o-rings, which need to be replaced every so often, as the rubber gets old. The Kleen Kanteen does not need any o-rings to be non-leaking.

I bought a couple Sigg bottles to try them and I really like them so far. DD's has cute pictures on it so it keeps her way more entertained in the car than her old plastic sippy.

I also like the fact that Sigg has a whole bunch of interchangeable caps for their bottles.

But, I'm planning to order some Kleen Kanteens at some point too, just to compare. To be honest, and this is pretty lame, the reason I didn't go for the KK's is because I object to stupid spelling.

I bought one of each to try, the SIGG is nicer IMO, nicer design, better spout (my KK sports one squeals loudly as I drink, very annoying) and it's prettier : . I still use the KK often, the major bonus it has is being dishwasher safe. But really, I just rinse out the SIGG after using it and I haven't needed the special brush to clean it at all. I will be purchasing more SIGGs once I get this nifty discount code for reusablebags...

pretty please??? :

Because they're cuter.

AND I like that I can have 2 different spouts. I got one with a sports top and bought a screw top separately. My DD's picked out the silver and pink one with the heart on it for me for Mother's Day.

Does anyone know why they have different designs for the US and Europe? The fairy princess one I want to get my DD is only available on web sites that are in German. I did finally find it at one store online and it was $31! MUCH more expensive than any others I have seen.

In the end that's why we went with SIGG too. :

I liked the Kleen Kanteen because the opening seemed wider. I like to drink right out of the bottle. I have two. My favorite is the 18 oz bottle. But, I have a 27-ish oz one too.

If I order more, I will stick w/ the 18 oz. I also like the flat cap better than the sports cap.

I just bought an Enviro Products bottle. It stainless like KK, but a fun bright color on the outside like the Sigg. It was $6 at my local HFS.

OK, so I got my SIGG and I LOVE it! Now I want another one and the kids do too. I am looking forward to throwing away their plastic water cups.

I guess the screw on top was on back-order so I didn't get it yet, but I am thinking of calling and cancelling it because I actually like the sport top!

This is from the reusablebags.com site :

Healthy & Safe
SIGG reusable bottles exceed FDA requirements and have been independently tested to prove 0.0% leaching, helping reduce your exposure to harmful chemicals like BPA (see Newsroom for more). The proprietary SIGG bottle lining is a water-based, non-toxic coating that is baked into the interior walls and remains flexible and crack resistant for the life of the bottle. The special SIGG lining is not plastic – it is a micro-thin epoxy. Due to the finish of the liner, there is much less chance for bacteria build-up with a SIGG as opposed to plastic containers. The liner is taste-neutral and resistant to fruit acids and energy drinks, ensuring that your drinks taste like your drinks every time.
