I love washing with honey, but the price of raw honey here in Japan is astounding (like, $30 a jar). So my question is, is it OK to wash with non-raw honey? Does it get the job done? What benefits are we missing out on? TIA!

We just make sure it's 100% honey, and not some sort of corn-syrup or fake-honey substitute. I get mine from the farmer's market. It's local honey, not entirely sure if it's raw, but I know that it's pure honey and not colored sugar syrup. In the states, some of the products labeled honey have other sweeteners mixed in with natural honey too.
