Lately my skin's been feeling really dry, and I've been reading about coconut oil.

Today I was at the Indian store and I picked up some coconut oil. I guess it's normally used for cooking. How can I tell if it's refined or unrefined.

And can I put it on my face?

TIA!!!

I use the Parachute brand from the Indian store and I use it all over my body. It doesn't bother me. It's probably semi-refined and not organic or anything.

It will most likely says someplace on the bottle if it's refined or not.

I don't know the brand you bought but I have put three different brands of coconut oil on my face, my body and in my body, nothingbad has happened to me yet!

Thanks for the responses guys! I tried it this morning, and my skin does feel soft. but I'm comning from doing nothing.

oneotamama, I was kind of dissappointed, it doesn't smell like much of anything. I was surprised, I live here in texas, and left it out at night... It's totally liquid, clear, suprisingly light, and doesn't smell like coconut. :-)

Unrefined will smell coconutty and refined doesn't smell like much. I really like the MRH unrefined. I get it a gallon at a time and use for cooking and skin care.

You should be able to use it on the face though the refined can sometimes be problematic. I used to break out when I tried to use the Spectrum brand refined on my face but since I've switched to organic unrefined, no problems.
