Does coconut oil ruin adult toys? Prophylactics? Anything else I should be aware of?

I really like coconut oil as a personal lube - just wondering if oil plus manufactured items equals degradation or anything.

Thanks.

I don't know about the toys but condoms should be used with a water-based lubricant. Oils can degrade the latex which can cause breakage.

You can use oil with polyurethane condoms, but not latex. This means oil also can't be used with diaphragms or cervical caps. It should be fine with sex toys as long as they are not latex and if you use condoms over sex toys for safety and sharing, they must be polyurethane as well.

I use coconut oil on toys. You need to wash it of as soon as you are done using the toy. I haven't had problems with it.

I think coconut oil is great lube for men and woman and it smells great- but shea butter is far too oily and sticky and can disturb the natural balance.

anything else that is natural that can work? I don't really like coconut, and my toddler is allergic to it. . . although I don't know how, considering the application, it would affect him. well . . nevermind

Children deserve the respect of puzzling it out.

I think you need to be very careful with oils as they can be far to heavy and disturb the natural balance and cause all sorts of yeast infections, discharge etc. Coconut oil was the only thing that works for me. Maybe others have other solutions. However I prefer to use use medical grade silicone. Most of them are terrible in terms of ingredients but this one is good: http://www.pjurusa.com/lube-pjur-woman.html It has been tested thoroughly in hospitals in Denmark and is considered the best. you can get them at a pretty low cost if you search online shops. If you end up liking it you can buy bigger bottles very cheap.

Danishmom - thanks so much. I keep on having allergic reactions to different things. Horribly painful, and it takes so long to heal. We will definately try this.

Olive oil also works.

Uh, don't buy the stuff flavored with garlic or pepper, though.

Wow, this is fantastic news! I have a bunch of the stuff kicking around from a raw strawberry pie I made a few months ago- sounds like a wonderful way to use it up
