I have had good results with using no deoderant, just spritzing some rubbing alcohol under my arms, and then coconut oil.

I know this is better than using the average, commercial deoderant, but is it safe to put alcohol on your skin? Especially freshed shaved underarms?

I wouldn't. Alcohol is a well-known irritant, and will be very drying. Not the good kind of drying.

I've used it for years and don't find it drying at all.

As far as your question about whether it's safe or not, I've not been able to find anything that says it's not and isopropyl alcohol is made for use on the skin.

I know EWG doesn't like it so much but, in small amounts, I'm ok with it. I wouldn't bathe in it but, for me, a spritz under the pits is ok.

edited to add that alcohol is in everything from shampoo to lotion to mouthwash and toners. I feel pretty secure that a small amount on my pits is ok.

My parents have been using plain eau de cologne (simple perfume containing alcohol and lemon) for their armpits for many many years. The first deodorant came into their home by their teenage daughters :-). Now one of those tries to naturalise her bathroom equipment to some extent :-). I will be trying the eau de cologne (I think 70-80% alcohol) thing again because the chrystal deo I have (the body shop) doesn't work for me in this very hot sweaty climate, and in winter it doesn't do it's work well either.

If you use vodka - dilute it. I use straight rubbing alcohol with no problems but the one time I tried straight vodka, I burned my pits so bad - they were red and irritated for days.
