My husband had a routine colonoscopy and a cancerous lesion was found. He had an operation to remove that part of his colon on Oct. 30. The pathology report came back Thurs. showing that it had cells on the outside of the colon wall -which means 6 months of chemo starting in about a month. We are both kind of in shock. We have a 7 year old son who we haven't told about the chemo yet. We need to figure out how to handle things to deal with keeping our lives going while everything is turned upside down. He will receive disability pay from his job and we will still be paying for health ins and receiving benefits. We don't know how much will be covered. He will need to work part time when physically able.He is an IT project manager and can work from home but the work is very stressful and not rewarding - he hated it before this and now he is really dreading going back after the operation. We need to figure out how to make life as easy as possible.I'm just miserable.

I don't have any advice or suggestions, but wanted to let you my dad had rectal cancer several years ago and he is fine now.

First of all my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. My DH's boss was diagnosed with colon cancer a couple of years ago. It was really advanced, he was given little hope. He found a very aggressive Doc. had surgery and about 6 -12 months of Chemo(can't remember ) including an experimental drug called herbatux( sp?) which was all successfull. He just went back for his two year check up and is still cancer free. Also, He was able to work through much of his chemo, after the first two months. It looks like you may be in CT his doc was in NY (although he works here in CT) at Mt. Kisco. If you would like any other info that Boss man may have I am happy to ask, He and My Dh are very close.

Thank you for all the good thoughts. To MamaJenese, could you please find out the doctor's name, drug name and protocol and anything else Bossman thinks we should know. We do live in Ct-Southbury. It sounds like you live in Fairfield county. It would be easier for treatments if we used a doctor closer to us but we welcome any helpful info you can get. Dh's cancer is Stage 2 so Bossman sounds like he had more advanced stage. Thank you for any answers you can get us.

I'm so sorry to hear this but thank godness they caught it at this routine exam (that many men skip or avoid) Good luck with everything, it sounds like you have some great health providers and everything will be okay.
