Yes, I know it's only Christmas Day tomorrow. But has anyone considered their New Year Resolutions yet, and if so, what are they?

Mine are:

1. Lose 40 lbs and commit myself to my yoga and running.
2. Be more organised than I already am.
3. Focus on diversifying my work experience so that I can move on from a
job that I really dislike.
4. Make sure that I remember all friends/family birthdays

I'm sure that I will add more to these before January 1st.

Peace

Mine are...

1) Train to run the Portland Marathon (October)
2) Take and pass the Oregon Bar Exam (February)
3) *gulp* Open my own law practice... (June-ish)
4) Continue to work on a book that I am writing

This is very ambitious. I have been wearing pajamas for a year and a half. Wish me luck.

Good luck to you. :

Most of my New Year Res. have been half hearted previously. But I'm feeling good about this coming year and more determined than ever before. The issues that I've focused on are areas that 'need' work, so I'm on a mission

But March is a good time to start them too

1. Lose 50 lbs. Get healthy and in good shape.
2. Quit smoking.
3. Do a better job about keeping in touch with friends and family.

That is all I have for now but I am sure the list will keep growing!

Good thread!

My resolutions:
1. Focus on brushing teeth. Brushing AND flossing my own (the flossing usually "takes too long" in my reasoning) and harassing the kids to brush their teeth twice a day. I should take my three-year-old to a dentist; add that to the list.

2. Get back into physical therapy for a knee problem that has just started up again. Discuss whether surgery might be a better option at this point. I ruined my knees running cross-country in high school and the damage is just catching up with me now.

3. Write for an hour every day. This website and book reviews on Amazon and emails don't count. I need a television-free hour every evening in which I actually write something that might someday turn into something.

4. Cut soda completely out of my life. I don't even like it all that much, and we never have it in our house, but when we go out I drink it. And I wait tables one night a week and I drink it at the restaurant because I'm thirsty and it's convenient and free. I don't need the extra caffeine or sugar in my body.

5. Pay off the last lingering debt we're carrying and bump up our monthly contributions to my kids' college fund with the extra money.

6. Get outside at least four days a week. This is the most difficult one for me. I hate the winter and simply do not tolerate cold very well. It is a sorry accident that I was born and raised in New England and then went on to marry another born-and-bred New Englander. I'm stuck here, I'm afraid. We gave our kids sleds for Christmas; this is meant to be a bit of a motivator for me. If the kids are begging to go sledding, how heartless would I have to be to tell them that, no, we'll be spending the day cuddled under a blanket on the couch sipping hot chocolate and reading books? Or maybe I'll just end up hiding the sleds and getting really creative with rockin' indoor ideas so my kids forget about the outdoors entirely. Thus the resolution, set in stone.

7. Go to bed at a reasonable hour. 1:27, dh would argue, is in no way reasonable. Exactly. I'm off to bed; thanks for getting me thinking! Eek, I mean off to brush and floss, then go to bed. It seems I'm already getting bogged down in my own resolutions.... not a positive sign for the year to come.

reading through the previous posts has added to my ever-growing list...

so...

1. keep to boundaries with my x...I am much more sane when he doesn't come in my house

2. try running as an exercise

3. listen to my body--- ie eat when hungry, sleep when tired (!) etc

4. drink more water (and less caffiene)

5. give up sugar

6. commit myself to regular Pilates sessions

7. no plastic bags, no excuses

8. limit reading awful celebrity magazines

9. BE CONSCIOUS OF MY CHOICES AND BEHAVOIRS

10. tooth care-- mine and ds...have booked us both to see dentist in Jan.

11. continue learning and applying GD

12. finish my case-studies for cranio-sacral training

13. stop being such a homebody and get outside more-- esp for ds

14. pay back my mom and save money for trip to the USA in the Fall '08

15. use EFT regularly ( min 1x per week) to work through emotional blockages

16. Dance more. Even if it's only in the living room!

I'm sure there are more but this is all achievable if I focus on it...

good luck everyone!

Hmmm.

1. declutter.
2. not rush to fight. (towards extended family, I mean. ISSUES there.)
3. write more often. I used to have a talent. It's been sitting idle far too long.

Wife, mom to 6 great kids!...avid crafter, music lover,  reader, gardener!

My BIG resolution is to follow the 'Paleolithic Diet' for one year. It's partially in response to a challenge from my Bio Anthro professor, and partially because, well...why not?

I also want to...

- start walking every day
- save up to buy a new laptop and a new DSLR camera
- start seriously planning a trip to Africa next summer with my younger brother
- graduate! (hopefully without crippling senioritis )

And of course work on strengthening relationships with family, friends and God. I'm looking forward to 2008

1) I'd like to lose weight. At least 20. I'd be happy with that, as a starter.
2) I need to work out more. Not just to lose weight, but for my health.
3) Eat more fruits and veggies and less junk.
4) Pack my lunch to work instead of grabbing fast food or vending machine food.
5) get my house organized!!! and actually know where everything is!
6) open a savings account for us and a college account for matthew, and actually PUT MONEY INTO IT!
7) Think before I buy!!! and KEEP THE CREDIT CARDS AT HOME!
8) Work on my patience.
9) Stop drinking soda completely and drink more water!

That's it for now. lol

3) Exercise more.
4) Change to mostly natural hair and beauty products.
5) Do some kind of course/schooling.

Lu - A ten year plan is forming, here's hoping everything lines up

1. To live more simply. Seriously declutter my life and live more minimalistically.

2. Follow my SCD strictly for the whole of 2008. I follow it now, but I'm ready to get creative in making recipes and doing it with style. I want to eat a lot more veggies within the scope of the diet as well.

3. I eventually want to eat as completely seasonally/locally as I can, growing most of my own veggies. I want to get my intensive garden going and growing.

4. Make a few home repairs that are long overdue.

Now, what is the key to NYR success? What influences people's sticking to their resolutions or not?

Shonda

Hee hee hee. I'd love to gain five pounds, too.... in my breasts. When will someone perfect a way to squish unnecessary fat from thighs or something up to the breasts, where it is desperately desired? Is it possible that at the age of thirty, after having two children, I'm still awaiting the full effects of puberty?

Good luck in your weight-gaining campaign. From what I've heard it can be just as difficult as losing weight, especially for people who generally eat healthy and non-junky stuff.
