Regardless of what the left says I will always love George W., be a Republican, and love all things conservative. Reading political comments and threads on MDC reminds me even more why I am a conservative!

I love it when someone says that they will ALWAYS do such and such no matter what. : So are you saying that no matter what Dubya does, you will always love him? What if he slept with an intern and lied to the country about it? What if the Republican party added a policy to their platform that really burned you up? You would still love "all things conservative" if one in particular didn't sit right with you? What about opening up your mind long enough to realize that maybe just maybe down the line there will be a reason for you not to agree with the republican party, with all things conservative or with Dubya the president. I think it's really dangerous to follow anything blindly.

I would never presume to say that I will ALWAYS be a liberal and love all things liberal...because I haven't been and I don't.

I'm not assuming anything. My post is a direct response to TexasSuz saying she will always be a republican, always love Bush and always love all things conservative. My question simply was how can you close yourself off like that?? To me, when you say you will always love a certain leader, you are following him/her blindly. *shrugs*

I also don't think that one silly site should change anyone's mind but leaving yourself no room to change or grow is silly and dangerous in my opinion.

I'm with Suz

We're not ALL that way, HB. But then again, some of us also originally come from the northeast (and would love to get back there ASAP).

I don't believe everything I read on the internet either, but I also don't believe the #@%$ we are being fed by the mainstream press.

Not every Republican likes Bush. My dh, a die hard MODERATE republican can't wait for '04. He said that it can't come soon enough. He called Bush the other day a facist

(Quote: Fascism is an extreme right-wing ideology which embraces nationalism as the transcendent value of society. The rise of Fascism relies upon the manipulation of populist sentiment in times of national crisis. Based on fundamentalist revolutionary ideas, Fascism defines itself through intense xenophobia, militarism, and supremacist ideals. Although secular in nature, Fascism’s emphasis on mythic beliefs such as divine mandates, racial imperatives, and violent struggle places highly concentrated power in the hands of a self-selected elite from whom all authority flows to lesser elites, such as law enforcement, intellectuals, and the media.) http://www.alternet.org/story.html?StoryID=15867

It has NOTHING to do with liberal v. conservative. My dh will not hesitate to vote for any democrat next time, regardless of who it is because of Bush.

I think there are many people, republicans included, who are scared to death of the loss of civil rights, the reckless abandon in which $ is being spent, the arrogant neglect of diplomacy, the catering to the corporations, the tax break for the rich, etc.

Take a look at these 2 links. This has been painstakingly pieced together from news reports (reputable news agencies), interviews, and public government documents - some of which are now being supressed. Take the time to read all the way through. You will be shocked and incensed.

You can say that again!
My husband, a lifelong Republican, did NOT vote for Bush and changed his voter registration from Rep to independent. He says his strong environmental convictions and his respect for women/children/education/health care cannot let him be a Republican anymore.
My inlaws, lifelong Southern Conservatives, did not vote for him and have already said will not vote for him next year.
My MIL is a CPA and she goes nuts every time she hears of Dubya's ridiculous tax cuts.

Well, if you're not native, it hardly counts. Let's not even open up the whole nature vs. nurture can of worms.

Though I don't quite HATE G. Dubya, I can't say I LOVE him either. I don't agree with much he has done and can't wait until 2004! GO NADER!!

I have a friend from grade school that lives in Austin, and he swears by it. Maybe it's the exception that proves the rule?
