I concur with Clay...go read all the stories of pgs where spotting and bleeding occurred without harm. I only had spotting during my last pg and it freaked me out! Thankfully it was only on one day and my midwife was able to talk me down quickly. And of course, that mass of cells is now my 3 1/2 yo sweet daughter.

Rest, rest, rest and more rest....you deserve it AND it might help.

I also did some bright red bleeding with my youngest. Fruck me right out. For me it was likely the placenta branching out and 'digging deeper'.

With Lucas, I had a mc before I got pg with him so I was super paranoid. And I had bright red bleeding with him, enough to require a pad, for a few DAYS. On having an us, all was well somehow and there was no indication where it came from even. So keep in mind that it CAN be nothing... my doc at the time actually told me she has had women bleed a puddle of red blood and then go on to have healthy babies a few months down the track. Stay positive hun!

The universe has a... strange, sense of humor doesn't it.

DH got paid early and is off to replace his missing trolley I think there will have to be tweaking of the budget this fortnight. On the upside, he's off work early today, so I'm going to take my mad money and go meet him for coffee & take the kids to the park. I've already eaten half our homeschool day by watching Prez Obama's speech online... loving his stance on BP, I hope the assault on their bottom line is SO huge that it makes an impact on them.

The rash- Tor has had it more or less since birth. It covers his upper lip and basically looks like he sucked on a paci dipped in red dye... it starts with little red bumps, the raised red raw rash spreads out in a circle from the inner spot with the leading edge being red/raised but the inner portion being clear skin (so it looks like a red circle drawn with a pen), then the whole thing scabs over/peels off and his lip is beautiful smooth soft baby skin. Then a few days later a bump appears, the red ring rash spreads out, his lip looks like a rashy mess, it peels, all is good.

We tried a variety of lotions/no lotions, soaps/no soaps, food modifications (for me, since this started at about 3-4 weeks so obviously only breastmilk). I don't have any sypmtoms, nothing funky about the breast even though the rash is very specifically where his skin contacts my breast while nursing. Our family practice dr has checked for thrush/yeast, impetigo, eczema, and so on. The specialist yesterday said "contact dermatitis, some fungal infection, he'll be fine"... which I KNOW. What I want to know is WHY this is happening? We use the bactorban anti-fungal which helps, but the time between breakouts is getting shorter and the bactorban no longer works as well. We can try a steroidal cream but really... on a baby boy's face? I just want a diagnosis that makes sense!

Other news- we took Laia to the dentist today since she had a (visible but not painful) cavity. Well, she has EIGHT cavaties they want to treat, and another half dozen that they think are small enough and in teeth that will fall out soon enough to take a "watch/wait" approach. I'm actually sick to my stomach. Now... two of the cavaties they just want to clean/seal. Six they need to drill and fill. The dentist thinks they are shallow enough that they wont need novacaine but WTH? Half the discomfort is due to cavatation of the drill! Also, while parents are encouraged to be with their child during most procedures, they DON'T allow parents in for fillings? They do them in half hour sessions... basically they only work for a half hour (tops) and they schedule as many sessions as necessary to finish all the teeth. But seriously. She had a blast today and loved it. She currently think dentists are the greatest thing ever and can't wait to go back. But a half hour, alone, getting her teeth drilled without meds? Or heck, alone, getting a novacaine injection? No way no how.

But then what do I do about the decay? I've looked at the dental health threads and there is just no way we can afford that sort of stuff. We don't drink juice, we don't eat a lot of sweet anythings, we don't eat a lot of sticky things. We brush twice a day (with a timer, she brushes alone in the am, DH or I do it for her in the pm). She flosses... not daily, but 4-5x/week. We didn't do the flouride drops (and have well water) but given the back and forth on that and the generally good dental routine I didn't think that would be sucha huge "loss".

This could be partially due to the celiac, and my mom's family (and myself) has horrible horrible teeth, but seriously... I feel sick.

Hi everyone. Still on and off with contracting today but it's mostly stress and arguing that I need a little TLC, bla bla.

The cutest thing though was that I contracted and felt the little outline of the dino. Yesterday it was two an hour and now it's just one every other hour. But, I'll see the midwife wednesday so I'll find out what will have to be done.

I wish there was... this is actually the most "family friendly" place because they let parents in for most stuff, but they are NOT specifically a pediatric dentist. They're a general "family dentistry" practice. The two pediatric dentists (one is a two hour drive, one is almost 3 hours) don't allow parents out of the waiting room at all, and even ask that parents not tell their child where they are going/what will happen! It's crazy.

Anyway, I'll ask around again, but this practice is seriously the best of the bunch and they told DH today that normally they wouldn't offer to do this much work on such a young child (they'd normally say that she'd HAVE to be seen at one of the pediatric dentistry groups), but that she was so well behaved and mature during the cleaning/xrays/exam that they thought they could do the work there in their office.

Oh, the two pediatric practices use papoose boards. This practice (because they don't usually do "work" on younger children) does not use any restraint system. But really... dd1 is 5. If she is alone? for freakin' drilling? She is not going to be sitting still and well behaved. It just wont happen.

We can get a second opinion (of course, we have no dental coverage, today set us back over 100 dollars and each filling will be another 103 dollars. Each. OMG) but I don't know what good that would do... no one else will allow parents in, and at least here she wouldn't be restrained?

Like I said, I think about it I literally start to retch.

it might be worth it to see one of the ped dentist OR insist that they use meds on her.
my 5 year old ds had to have some major work done (even had to have a tooth pulled) and they sent a script home for meds i would give him just before we left and by the time we got to the office the kid was out. they they did nitrous and Novocain and they did strap him down (i could not stay for the fillings, but i could walk him in there and be there while they strapped him in, it wasn't bad.. just Velcro straps done lightly) and the dentists big thing was getting it all done fast and all at once. he did ds's whole mouth in one visit. which was a blessing because i don't think i could have gotten him to go back. lol

unschoolin: your midwife can't see you before next week? that seems a long time.

Sorry to have been away--the in-laws were visiting.

Unschoolin'--I hope those contractions go away soon! Hang in there!

Clay, this sort of thing is what makes me worry about taking DD to the dentist. I hope you can figure out another course of action that suits you better.

I think DH has the job!!!!

He is THE finalist, and needs to go see the superintendent. Any other time he's had to do this, it's been a formality only, so unless something super bizarro happens, he's good to go!

We're going to a public ritual on Saturday, with a potluck and kids' activities (ds will probably only the whole time), and then Monday, on the actual Solstice, we'll be cooking a special meal, and my friend is bringing her huge cooker-thingy (I think it's a smoker) and we're going to burn things.
I have tons of stuff that needs shredded, and she has some stuff to get rid of, so it'll be like this Letting Go ritual, sort of.
If you can cook out in it and not smoke things, I'll be doing citrus chicken of some sort, and I found an Abundance spell/Fruit Salad recipe online that I want to do. And some other stuff. Summer is good for food, if nothing else

That's utterly maddening, Clay. I'd be insisting to go back with her, no matter what. What would they do if you did? Refuse to treat?

DS had to have six fillings (4 cavities and 2 "pits") when he was...hmm, 2-1/2? I wanted to put him under, but he'd had an MRI where they had to do that, and it was such a nightmare that I was very hesitant about that.

The dentist told me that it would be 45 minutes, maybe, total, and that he'd have novocaine, and be scared, but not in pain. I was with him the whole time. DS sat in my lap and laid his head back on the dentist's lap for the work. It was bloody awful watching ds in so much fear for 45 minutes-- it was a LONG 45 minutes, lemme tell you-- but it was over and it stayed over. He hasn't had a dental issue since, and he loves the dentist now.
Where, before, he was terrified of anyone in a white coat. If you even said the word "doctor" he would freak, a'la the little girl in Nemo. They all knew ds was coming at that office.

I wish you luck. That sounds utterly awful

I am putting the house up for sale this week, I think. It's still a depressed market, but the agents think I may be able to break even, which is really all I want. Making money would be nice, but I just want not to lose any.
Wish me luck, mamas. I'm rather nervous. I haven't made such a huge change since we moved here, 7 years ago.

That is crazy about the dentist!!!

Lilah had to have a tooth pulled at 11 months and I was with her every step....all the staff at both places (the family dentistry and pediatric we ended up going to) assumed I would be with her....never even a question!

As far the drugs...I didnt know they usually gave any for simple fillings? I have had several and was never numbed so I dont know.

We are now on day 3 and DS's daycare had to close today due to a late-night emergency. (I'm glad she called, but I wish it hadn't been at 2:30 am!) So I called DD's daycare and they were able to take him for the day... Score!! Lots of people gave me flack when I decided to send them to different daycares, but it does have advantages.

The Pagan Parenting episodes and Crystal Children seem to be very popular; Sacred Sexuality was our top episode for 6 months; and the MR Seller interview is very good. Other then that, we have episodes about pretty much any topic. We also do episodes where we do readings the whole time.

I got a ton of bras, shirts, dresses, even shoes from womanwithin.com. Their sizes are awesome for those of us with curves going on and the dresses I got are AWESOME!! BTW, my bra size is 42C, which is really hard to find, but they have it.

Check out my radio blog, Pagan Musings.
I'm a head-covering witchy mama to DS ('06) and DD ('10) with DH, Stormie, a Heathen breadwinning daddy.

Unschoolin- I see your fb updates but you haven't said whether you are ok are not. *hugs*

Witchy- yahoo!

Aweyn- Thanks for the reminder, I need to read Tracy's article. You *sound* better, how are you doing?

Clay- I believe my Mom went with us and told the dentist that she *was* with us, no choice.

Been strawberry picking, got caught in a downpour, then made jam and a friend dropped off fresh bread,so life has been rather good as of late.
We are taking Bella to a specialist to check her "other" vision, how she sees letters/numbers, how her eyes track, etc. I hope we have some answers as to her lack of reading, she gets fatigued and really has to work to read. She confuses many numbers, letters even though she knows them. It is so confusing for her, so I hope, hope, hope we get vision therapy or something.

My friends daughter had a lot of cavities. She was born without enamel on her teeth. Luckily, they had dental insurance.

I wish you had insurance. At least that way you could have them do all the work under general anesthesia. I know that's not ideal but it would be less traumatic.
Dental issues are so difficult with kids.

Yay for the job wytchygrrl!

I keep sending relaxed uterus vibes to you DeShanna!

Clay, I don't know what to tell you... Here I'm always welcome in the room for any procedure at the dentist office (regular one... no ped dentist around here)

I slept poorly... woke up many times... once I was too hot, next I was too cold... I'm sleepy and achy now.

Home is still looking nice - we are doing good keeping it tidy and clean! That feels good!
