FM: maybe it is just croup, which has a nasty barky cough and tight lung sounds.

maia: i am so happy you are having a great time.

unschoolin: take care of yourself! get some rest. mama won't be any good to anyone if she is sick. ((hug))

if we were still living in maine, we had plans to turn the cellar into a haunted house. it is a huge basement and sorta creepy. we were thinking of having it be free but people could donate canned food to the local food bank. kinda bummed we can't do that now.

mabon is my personal favorite holiday. i have been trying to really honor the harvest in an american thanksgiving sort of way (as in a big feast).
i find that both dh and my families could care less about our pagan holidays so i can do what i want and we can be together as a family and then when the "traditional" american holidays come around i don't feel upset that my family didn't do something at home together. and since i LOVE to cook, i get to cook and bake and experiment. my mom is a good cook, but it is always the same year after year. she never wants to try anything new. and if i some how get her to let me bring something, she won't eat it because it isn't hers. so this way i am happy to let her do it all and enjoy the meal cuz i have already made my own my way. lol

He has mixed feelings. The first week or two is usually the 'honeymoon' period. The more serious stuff tends to start happening after that.

Just got a call from the school nurse. A child in ds's class had to go home with a fever. Another child just started cold/sore throat symptoms. Since ds has an Immune Deficiency, the nurse is going to notify me when kids in his class are sick so that I can be on the lookout.
I hate that it's starting so soon.

Mo3-You could be right. I'm really hoping so. It was very warm yesterday, so she slept with her windows open and by morning it was pretty chilly in there. Also, she stopped coughing an hour ago and hasn't coughed since. I don't think Pertussis comes on this suddenly anyway. I'm feeling paranoid because I know 3 people personally who have it. Also, DD just started school on Mon, and about 1/2 of the school is unvaxed. We have an appt at 3:15, so we'll see. It's a beautiful sunny day here, so I'll send the kiddos into the yard to bake off the germs.

Dok- Healthy, healthy vibes to Roo and you.

croup can be just as scary. i always thought it was just in littles until my oldest son got it when he was 7. it was bad.
if she is responding to cool air it just might be croup. but if pertussis is going around i would have it checked. hell i would have it checked either way. lol

DoK: there is alot of cold yuck going around. people i know all over the country seem to be getting something (cough, runny nose, fevers, sore throats.) i don't really think any time is a "safe" time when you have a large group of kids together sharing germs all day. will roo take vit c and zinc? i am pretty sure they make some sort of kids vitamin with just those. i think rhino makes something for colds with those in it if i remember right.
i think that kids attitudes towards school can really be effected by how the parents see it. as a homeschooler i have to keep my mouth in check when dd tells me about her day in high school...i want to say RUN AWAY! but she is liking it so i am always being positive about it for her.
if things don't end up the way you want for roo are you willing to pull him out of school again?

He won't take oral meds, nor will he take meds that are put into food.
Yep, if school doesn't work out and there isn't another school in the area that has a better program, I will totally pull him out again and homeschool.

ohmygoodness! such activity! and newbies! but wait-- this always happens to us in fall, right? the usually chatty pagans become SUPER chatty in the fall, and lurkers come out of "the woodwork"... someone always remarks on it, and then we talk about why that makes sense.

hugs to all with sick and impatient littles... i was up all night with my sweet boy. so it's going to be a slow day here.

i have so many little things i keep thinking "i need to share this on the thread!" and then i forget.... i will share though that my front door is now adorned with a splendid (if "fake") berry/fall leaf wreath. i'm usually really picky about these things--i SO want the "real" thing, but since that's not... realistic... i gave in, and decided that i'd give it a try.... the inside of the front door has a halloween decoration my mom got me that has a halloween witch and says "best witches"... i *almost* bought an orange and black witches hat and some orange and black argyle socks... i decided out of nowhere (perhaps inspired by your chat about costumes?) that i want to wear a hat, fun socks, and fairy wings.... go figure. mom also got ds a "broom".... have i mentioned i think my house is a witchy house? there's something magical happening there. i'm not sure if it was something in the boxes that came, or something else being awakened... but it was fairly sparkling yesterday as we were unpacking. very cool. must go get red geraniums this weekend for the front porch!

thinking of you all!

aweynsayl- yay!

pictures of the painted rug, the table dh made, the addition as it is now... here

I wish I could claim the idea of painted rugs, but it's ancient (check out this or these for a more modern take). I love painted floors though... it's so adaptable and fluid! (and cheap ) )

We found some good metal gizmos at the thrift store along with a really nice globe. dd1 was pointing out random countries and asked for it soooo... not a planned expense but it was only a few dollars and how can you say no when a kiddo asks for a globe? And locates Sumatra on her own (we had sumatran coffee this morning so she pointed it out).

preschool playgroup- yay! We start next week since the schools here all start on Sept 8th and this way the "older kiddos" will be off at school. I hope we all have fun... maybe we're starting a movement!

I'll be attending an org meeting this weekend the start an Earth Scout group here, and then the following week we'll be going to a Druid Scout group in a nearby city. Yay for socializing!

Be pretty! Be practical! Be Pagan! Visit Pagan Hearth & Home!

aweynsayl: it is so nice when that feeling invades a home.

so park plans are nixed ds#3 woke up sick and pukey. poor kid, he so wanted to go. thankfully this is suppose to be a weekly thing, so we are already planning for next friday.

i am going to be 38 in 3 days! that is so shocking to me. i remember thinking that was old... now that i am there it suddenly isn't so old. in fact i feel great and young and full of life.

clay: i love painted floors! we had dreams of painting the floors in our arizona room in our house in tucson, but never got around to it. i would still love to do it. i think it would be great to do on a patio too. if this was our house i think i would, it is such a nice big covered patio.

i think this weekend i am going to dig out the holiday lights and string them up on the back patio and get a few more plants and find some sort of cheep patio furniture (on craigslist hopefully). dh asked me what i wanted for my birthday i said to get those darn planters ready! so i am hoping we can do that sat and sunday mornings.

This about sums us up too. I did a lot of "fighting" against the commercialism of it all and still do to some degree, but I have mellowed out and just enjoy both parts, seperately and uniquely.

Welcome to all the new folk.

Cari!

I had my first college class last night (well I have 2 online course I need to catch up on this weekend too ). But I think it's going to be interesting. It's Intro to Archaeology. The professor is a public archeologist, so it will be an interesting slant on the whole "who owns the past?" debate. DP's eyes glazed over when I talked about the syllabus. But pfft on him, I am going to have fun.

My family of 3 (plus pup) Indigo (Aimee), Rob (dp), Ryne (ds) & Phebe (dog), plus my BIL's family of 3.

Just wanted to mention for the newbies that there is a Witchy Weight Loss Thread here if anyone is interested in virtual pagan diet/exercise buddies....

Healing thoughts to all the families with mamas and/or littles who are ill, or in danger of becoming so. We are getting over a cold here.

Indigo, that course sounds FANTASTIC! I am starting a "preschool programming 101" course, Art, Literature, and Music for Preschoolers this fall and winter. How could that not be fun? But I am envious of your "grownup" course, I admit.

Love the painted floor, Clay -- cannot believe you managed to do that with a 1 yr old in your home! And wishing you luck on the robot building.

Yes, femme rouge, it would be fun to be able to get together irl with this group! What a playgroup that would be, eh?

Be careful, because, as my dh could tell you, I can talk about my dreams pretty much indefinitely. I'd love to hear about yours, or someone else's, if anyone feels they have something to share.

Was it your choice to start Roo in school again this fall, DoK, or was that always the plan? I do hope it all works out the very best way for both Roo and yourself. How is your mom doing, btw?

Well, of course it is a witchy house! It's *yours* isn't it?

Any news on the job front for your dh, witchy? Keeping my fingers crossed for you guys!

Glad you're happy and having such a good time, Maia!

That was the plan all along. We gave his immune system a break in the hopes that it would give his body time to develop better immune response.

Fall- Still warmish here, but it is going to fall off, well, cool off. We are planning a family "camping" trip which means backyard camping, cooking over a fire and general merriment!

Boo for those dealing with sick self and sick kids!

I found a pertty wood candlestick holder but I am using it as a vase since it has a small glass tube in it. I am finding that I am drawn to wooden objects.
I picked some yellow Glads to put in it.

I am finding my inner peace again, the kids are doing a more montessorian approach to schooling and fridays are do things for your soul, your spirit, your heart. We also found some awesome small gadgets for cooking and the witchy part of me is so happy to have little tools/gadgets.
Then we went out and picked veggies and fruit from the backyard.

Clay- I always wanted to do that on our porch, great "rug"!

Lots going on...Maia--I take it you're back with M for the weekend. Enjoy!

Hello to all the newbies! I lurked for a long time before I really jumped in....I know how it goes. Kudos to you all for being brave.

So...an update. A very happy update, in fact. My DH got the job!!!! I'm so excited for him! It's part time, but it's doing what he wants to do, so he'll be happy with his job. A big change from last year, indeed.

Come ponder with me about food!

Be safe Valerie.

momof3-you're right. There is a nasty virus right now taking over. Dd is much better now, but I may need to get steroids for my laryngitis as well and supposedly they have them safe for us preggos.

Made a fresh loaf of cinnamon raisin bread and mac n' cheese quesidillias for the kids' dinner. They loved it!

Then I finished my second diaper for the baby. My mom surprised us with a HUGE box of clothes for the kids and baby today. It was great as we didn't get him clothing lol.

Going to go crochet and watch Penn & Teller!

I am going to have to keep up with this thread more. There were things I wanted to reply to back on page 2, but now some are resolved, and others I have forgotten what I wanted to say!!

For all the sickies, I wish for very fast recoveries. Especially for the school age kids. I remember having pneumonia in the first grade and my stack of homework looked HUGE by the time I got out of the hospital. Welcome back, now get to work.

Aewensayl - sparkly witchy house?? I want to VISIT! lol. Nothing like unpacking and feeling like the house itself is welcoming you home. I wish you many happy seasons, and even better years.

Witchy - congrats to DH on the job success!!! Nothing like being able to do what you really love.

I totally should have asked for the good vibes on my own job hunt sooner. I got a phone call yesterday to get paperwork for a drug test, and another offer today!! So now i have to pick. I can go with the one with a little less pay and less hours and a steadier schedule doing something I would really love, or go with the one with longer hours, doing something I could be good at if I applied myself. I've been weighing out the pros and cons, and am thinking of going for the love over the money, but it is a hard leap to make, especially because I feel guilty leaving my DH bringing home the bulk of our income. But he wants me to do the happy job so, that's what I'm hesitantly going for.

I didn't make it to the library today. I tried to do my drug test and had some obstacles with that. I went in early, waited for an hour and 15 minutes before leaving for another appointment. Apparently they called my name right when I walked out the door. So I went to the appt. came back, still holding my, um, sample, and asked if it was going to be a long wait again. The lady at the desk said yes because everyone had gone to lunch, so I went to the bathroom. 20 minutes later I get called back. I didn't have enough for the test, so I was given two water bottles and sent back to the waiting room. 30 minutes later I thought I was ready, and I was wrong. Got another bottle of water and some snacks, because it was going on three and I didn't get to have lunch. They were very nice about it. An HOUR later I was bouncing on my heels and I gave a sample like never before!!! but the cup had a crack in it. Not my day for a drug test. So I am going to try again tomorrow. Here's hoping it will be better.

You ever have one of those days? Try as you might it just doesn't happen?

I am also going to the library tomorrow to look at physical books. I found a couple on online guides, but most of them want you to refer to the physical card while discussing the meanings. Chances are if I make my own tarot deck it is going to end up with some characters from Fruits Basket in it. It is a manga (japanese comic) series I thoroughly enjoy, with some very archetypal characters in it, and it involves the zodiac too.

Married to my loving DH superhero.gif, becoming more and more "crunchy" with age.

Hey pagan mama friends... If you are open to doing me a favor (at no cost), can you please pm me? Thanks!

Well, the hurricane/tropical storm is over. The wind and the rain kept me up for hours (not to mention an asthma attack that wasn't responding to medicine.)
There are tons of leaves everywhere and some tree limbs here and there but I think that's about it.

Roo isn't going out with his father today so I'm going to see if he wants to go to the movies. They have Sensory Movies here (they turn down the volume a little and keep some lights on.) I want to see Nanny McPhee Returns!

yay for new jobs and lovely weather and doing things outside (so envious of your backyard activities, aeress!)... i'm going *bonkers* being so cooped up. i need cooler weather NOW!

lol, aubergine & tallulahma about my house. i've very much enjoyed having both of you to comment and dream and tell me things about my home (and i hope that continues!). i'm excited to see where it takes me...

thank you all for the wishes on my new home! it's been a long hard road to get there.... boyohboyoh... i'm so happy it's finally going well for us on that front! love and vibes from this thread have been part of it, i know!

brittee~ i hear you on wanting to reply to things that have passed. there may be more of us who do, too, so feel free to still put your own two cents in, whenever you get "back" to it! especially if it's something you're wanting to learn more about, etc...

as for "one of those days".... well, merc is still retro.
i was actually going to post a countdown---

**TEN DAYS TILL PLUTO GOES DIRECT!!!!
(i think val and i at least will be doing this:
he's been retro since april, and i know i've seen a LOT of my "problems" very much played out in a plutonian (?) way. i'm very much looking forward to some forward energy from that little guy.)

**and EIGHT (i think?) till merc goes direct (of course, there's still the shadow, but still....)

**and four days til new moon!

we're entering smoother waters, lovelies. can you feel it????

Oh my Aweynsayl! I'm already just thinking about the end of this.

Brit: go for the Love! Go for the Love!!!

DOK, hope you get to see the movie you want!

Went to boxing training but only did the first part of my routine... my left kidney is inflamed (probably an impending kidney stone's crisis... ) and I couldn't stand hitting the sandbags. I'm so fed up with those stones!!!

Love to all!

We saw Nanny McPhee Returns and we both loved it! It was much better than the first one. It had a couple of 'spooky' parts and some sad parts but the rest was cool and funny.

Ds says that Nanny McPhee is a good witch.

Wow, this is great news! I'm so glad to hear you sound more upbeat, and that your house is growing on you. I was hoping it would

That is awesome, MO3! How does she feel; is she reluctant or excited?

Glad you're happy and having such a good time, Maia!
It was an anomaly, I think After the first day/night, things went horribly awry. I am hoping it's Merc retro. We just have this serious communication issue when it comes to...well...the thing I talked about a couple months ago reared its ugly head again. It's awful, and we're so not on the same page We're trying to work through it, but it's so hard. We both have such baggage, and I really hope it irons out at some point. We actually went to bed mad last night and I thought he was going to make me go home today but things are better today. A little. Not like I'd like, and not like the first day, but slightly.
I just...I don't want a best friend, I want a lover. I mean, I love that he's my best friend, but I need sex, too, and lots of it, if I'm only going to visit for a couple of days every couple of months. It's so sporadic. My drive is SO much higher. It's so hard not to feel so rejected when I know he loves me... but I do

maia- my septum is the part that is in between your nostrils. My tongue ring is stretched with a 4 gauge and really thick. Dermal anchor is a permanent piercing you can get and mine is next to my eye like a tear drop.

I'm sorry things went badly maia. *hugs*

I finally caved and went to the medical aid unit. The verdict: Upper respiratory infection. And they were shocked at how low my blood pressure was, which is (once again) my norm. 124/50 and I feel fine.

I am having a good night.
