Please pray for our family. My husband broke his arm, and because he works construction, he might not be able to work. If he doesn't work, he won't be able to take off when the baby comes or possibly even for the birth, nor will we have money to hire help during labor or postpartum. If the baby comes before my due date, he likely still will have a very limited ability to help me during labor and postpartum. I feel so stressed out. Please pray for the baby to stay inside until my due date and for his work to have light duty work to offer him. Thank you.

Thanks! Here I am! :blowkiss I didn't mean to disappear. I just realized all of a sudden that I hadn't been getting notifications.

Things are going swimmingly, so far! DS is acting up...school started and I guess he's starting to get used to being here, and used to being around M-- tell you what, though, that's a good thing. He really has respect for M and M doesn't take any duff from ds at all. M is still learning ds...as in, what he's like with and without meds, when and whether to ramp up the humor (ds spirals out of control with that and you have to know when to put the brakes on, that kind of thing). But so far it's working.

I start orientation for my job on Wednesday. I'm excited that so far I appear to have gotten the job I wanted (even from back in Asheville), but I don't want to work at all and I'm still trying to wrap my mind around having to do that.

We have health insurance! Both of us! I can't get used to that. DS's meds are FREE. At the discount we got in NC, they were still $70/month. I love our apartment. I like the neighborhood-- except for the car wash across the street, which wouldn't be bad if people vacuuming out their cars thought the whole world wanted to hear their music sometimes, but it's usually pretty quiet here.
The trains are right down the road next to the highway. I love trains. I grew up with them and could hear them in Asheville and I am SO HAPPY I can see/hear them right there. I know they bug other people, but I love them.

Anyway-- what else?

Maia - Glad to hear things are going well.  DS acting up - is it bad or just normal adjusting behavior?  I am glad that he and M are taking to each other.

What is your job??  Sending lots of good energy for that one!

LOVE all the good news about the health insurance, apartment, neighborhood, etc.  SO SO SO pleased for you.

Nothing much going on here.  Trying to get back into a routine of sorts.  Feeling all sorts of discombobulated like I need to be still for a long, long period of time.  Trying to figure out how to make that work.  Probably logging off of facebook would be helpful.  ha.

Revolting - Any news about your husband? How is his arm? Hoping that things turned out OK and they were able to find some light duty work for him.

Happy September Mamas!

I have been obsessed with buying things with owls on it for this baby and last night, there was an owl on our roof, hooting away for a few minutes while we were in bed. This AM I woke up with period-like cramping. I guess the owl was heralding the soon arrival of our baby? I have just been monitoring things all day. Trying not to get too excited - I know this is a preview and could stop at anytime.

Thanks! I don't know, with ds's behavior-- we haven't had to adjust to anything before. Monday, he had off of school, I kept him off meds so he'd eat, but he was an utter BEAST the whole day. I was curling up in a ball by evening.
Tuesday thru Friday he was a dream, in school and out! In the mornings, evenings, easy-peasy, for FOUR DAYS :thumb Came home from school and talked our ears off for an hour and a half, but sat right down and did his homework voluntarily. He knows he can have computer time if he does that. BUT, I think he's starting to slack off already...he's a "I'll do the minimum I can get away with" kind of guy :(

Oh, my job. It's with Home Instead Senior Care. I'm going to be a caregiver for elders in their homes. Hopefully ONE, that is my elder and I am their caregiver. I hope I get an old Massachusetts granny-woman; how cool would that be?

Yeah really, revolting! How goes everything?

Thistle, that is too cool about the owls. Have you picked out a name for the baby? Wonder if there's a name that means "Owl"...that would be sweet. I think, anyway.

Thanks everyone! My husband went back to the doctor on Tuesday, and his arm had swollen so badly his doctor put him on bed rest for a week. His boss asked him to come to work on Monday but with no promise that he'd actually have any work for him to do. I try to stay hopeful.

Maia - That's awesome about your health insurance and your son's meds. Keep us updated on your job! I'm curious what kind of elder you will help.

Thistle - So exciting. Keep us updated! And in case you had an interest in owl baby names: http://bewitchingnames.blogspot.com/2013/01/spirit-animal-round-up-owl.html

Man, revolting, at least though they are keeping him in the loop so far. Poor DH!

I can't wait to find out who I get, too.

I lurve owls. I have met girls named Athena before. I haven't seen much in that list that would do for boy names, IMO. Thistle, do you know the sex of your baby yet?

Hey, everyone. I finally have a chance to get in here. I've been sick for a week.

Ok, let's summarize. I was laid off. Babysitter dropped us. Baby ran off and got picked up by the cops. I was charged with neglect, but the charges were dropped (officially because witnesses didn't show; unofficially cuz it was a stupid charge due to unusual circumstances. Bug needs surgery again. Oh wait, DH and I aren't legally married, and I'm unemployed (see above) so no insurance. Trying to get on Medicaid. BIL moved in, got a job, does chores, still pending the first paycheck (50% is ours for room, board, car expenses, etc.). Parents got us tickets to Lynyrd Skynyrd at the state fair. Woot! I learned to make cheese (ricotta & mozzarella, so far) and took over running the town's farmer's market. It is the most successful I've ever seen it and several people agree. I'm writing a Pagan Cookbook, freelancing and looking forward to working on my non-fiction Pagan book, The Goddess of Ick. People seem to like the intro draft that I wrote out and published in my blog (just today, in fact). Still doing the radio show. Attending Sumbel and Blot events in Lincoln. Did I miss something?

Check out my radio blog, Pagan Musings, and my writing (as Selina Wolfcat & Sarah Buhrman).
I'm a head-covering witchy mama to DS ('06) and DD ('10) with DH, Stormie, a Heathen breadwinning daddy.

Yikes, Wolfcat, you have a lot going on! It sounds like the ick is balanced by the good, though. Hopefully. Yum on the cheese! Is it better than bought cheese? I would think so! Do you have a cow? Or access to one? How did you do it?

Goddess of Ick-- love it :lol

We're settling in nicely to our new home. It's been almost 3 months already! DS is adjusting to his new school, even with all the homework. He's actually buckling down and DOING it, which is a huge change for him-- usually he tries to get away with as little as possible. He still does, but at least he is sitting down doing it without me making him and causing a huge stink.

i MIGHT get around to cleaning the bathrooms today, and turning the heel on a sock i am knitting, oh and finish a book. LOL OR i might take a nap.

oh, and anyone have plans for the fall equinox? we will be camping on the actual day, but i am planning on having a nice feasty type meal the following saturday... we have a 1/2 ham in the deep freeze, and maybe sweet potatoes, and grilled corn??? homemade bread, and pie. not 100% sure yet. the kids and i are planning on making apple sauce sometime in the next week or so, depends on what sorts of apples we get in our bountiful baskets... no one like granny smith. we got a bunch of small ones last week so i made an apple pie. maybe we could do some pear butter. i might make that up this week (like tomorrow). i love pears but we have SO MANY from BB and no one is eating them. hmmm pear butter would be heavenly. i might have to just freeze it though, i don't have my mom's canner any more, and i just don't have the money to pay for the gas to drive over there and get it.

what does this have to do with fall equinox? lol i have no idea. except maybe pear butter is all fall like, right??

Wow, mama, you are productive! I had chicken salad today, too, out of the roasted chicken from yesterday :D

Make pear mincemeat-- YUM. I made that once and I can't remember how I did it, but it tasted sort of like mincemeat only vegetarian. Out of pears. It was amazing. You can use it for pie filling, eat it out of the jar, whatever.

We're seeking out this organization that has public rituals. Otherwise, dunno yet. DS isn't remotely interested in religion, DP is Catholic (though open-minded)-- my spirituality has become rather a private thing, I suppose.

Happy September everyone. Hope everyone is having a good weekend. This morning was nice and cool.  Fun at the farmer's market, and another walk later to get maple scones. mmmmm.  We have a local organic bakery within walking distance and they are starting to bring on the autumnal goodies :-D

Yum, y'all are making me hungry :-) mamaofthree you have been cooking up some goodness!  Congrats on your newest little one baking away, too :-)

revolting, hope your husband is doing better! And that you are baby are doing great.

Maia, glad to hear you are doing well in MA.

Thistlemoon, that is so cool about the owls.  I know we'll all be excited to hear when your little one arrives!

Wolfcat, wow, you are one busy mama!  Pagan cook book, cool!

Not much going on with us, either. *waves to vydalea*.  although I did go back to yoga for the first time in a long while.  Went last Sat. and tried to go today, but no one showed up to open the studio!  Myself and another lady stood there chatting for a while.  Oh well, I met her, so that is something; she was nice and I'm always looking to meet new people, as I still feel like such a newcomer here.  My husband has a couple of new colleagues in his history dept., so I'm hoping to go out for a drink sometime and get to know them.  They are both moms as well, and seem fun and liberal and all-around good eggs.

Our house did sell last month, so that burden is lifted.  It is Sooooo nice not be living on the edge financially any more.  Not sure when we will get to start looking for a new home, as we lost money and need to build up a downpayment.  But for now, we are doing o.k.  phew.

The weather has been cooling down a bit the past couple of days. ahhhhhhhh.  So much nicer not to be stuck inside out of the broiling heat.

The girls will be 1 on 10/3.  CANNOT believe it.  when people told me that time would go quickly, and that babies are only tiny for like, a second, I knew logically it must be so. But you really don't feel the impact of it until it happens, do you?  Some days last winter seemed endless. But now, it seems like their first year has gone by in a flash, and they are on their way to being toddlers.  Crazy! uhoh3.gif   Sometimes I miss them being teeny tiny, but life sure is a lot easier now, and it is great to be able to have fun with the girls and see them becoming little people.

Hi mama's!  I just realized why I keep forgetting to check in here.  The bookmark on my computer is missing!  Guess I need to fix that.  :wink

Hope you all are doing well.  We are entering autumn and with that, I feel excitement and anxiety.  I love autumn but I can't stand what follows!  LOL.

Since I haven't checked in here with any detail, I figured I'd let you know what's been happening.  My son has been going to a Neurologist for epilepsy testing.  We are pretty sure that is what is going on but it's hard to formally diagnosis these kind of seizures on a video EEG unless they catch a seizure in action.  It's deep in his Temporal Lobe so the only clue that something is going on is periods of slow brain waves.  Of course, when he has bigger seizure activity, it is visible by weird repetitive motions and absence.

My stuff: I have weird swelling in my right foot. At first, docs thought it was from an injury. Now, they are testing for DVT and other venous issues.  :(  Plus, I have to have a root canal on Wednesday (I have a huge dental phobia).

Good stuff: I started a business.  I got tired of not having money. LOL. Super excited about it so that gives me something positive and fun.

I'd love to hear how everyone else is doing.

Hi guys,

Just checking back in! I was in labor when I wrote my last post and we welcomed Alba Rose Jenevieve into the world on September 8, 2013 at 2:50 am.

I had a great labor, most of the early parts I was out and about - we went to our favorite place for brunch then went for a nice hour walk with the dogs, came home and rested. Around 9:30 contractions started coming on harder and I was fully dilated by 1 am and around 2 am I got into the birth tub and she was born less than an hour later.

She is the joy of our life and yesterday we celebrated her one week birthday! :)

Ahhhh!!!! yikes2.gif

I feel like I missed so much!!  For some reason MDC doesn't send me daily updates even though I asked for them...glitch in the system or something small, I'm sure...

So....

Wolfcat: I am glad you're feeling better. Sounds like you've been super busy, mama!  How hard did you find it to make ricotta and moz?  I see you can get the kits, etc. and I've always thought of getting them but... Do you know if you can freeze cheese?  Hooray for the great reception on the intro to Goddess of Ick.  I will have to check it out!  I'm also to hear that BIL moving in is working out for you!!!

Maiasaura: Have you been assigned a person to work with yet?  That sounds totally up your alley.  I hope you do get some awesome, crazy old lady!!!  Hard to believe you've been in MA for 3 mos!!  Love hearing that DS is transitioning so well to his new school! hooray, hooray, all around!! :joy  How is M?

siddal: Your babies are ONE!!?  I'm always looking for mamas to hang with, too.  I am in my hometown but most of my friends have either moved out of the area or aren't moms which gives us very different schedules.

DoK: What is your new business? Good luck, my friend!  As for your son: are you relieved to get an idea of what is going on with him?  I hope your dentist appt went well and all the craziness in your foot works itself out.  wow!

mamaofthree (plus4more - haha):  Your posts are causing me to eat my arm off.  yum yum yum.  :yum  How old are all your babies?

Thistlemoon: CONGRATULATIONS and many blessings to your little Alba Rose Jenevieve!  :heartbeat  YAY!!!  Sounds like you had a great delivery!  So awesome!  Did you have a doula or midwife with you?

revolting: thinking of you, mama!!  :blowkiss

AFM: I did my first diaper delivery last week for my diaper service.  I have found a couple of doulas to work with and am now trying to market like a madwoman.  I am trying to concentrate on being strong and courageous and call on Brigit for some warrior energy to not freak out that I have invested time and money into something that seems like it's not taking off like I hoped it would.

Sunday is the equinox - I'll likely make some apple bread or apple sauce.  Our tree that has been next to our house for the past 4 years that we've owned it gave us an ABUNDANCE of apples this year.  I am making applesauce and bread like a MAD WOMAN!  Our garden is winding down but there is lots of bnut squash so perhaps I will make this delicious bnut squash casserole with leeks that our family loves.  so savory and delicious!!!

Sending you all much love!!!

peace.gif Mama and tiphat.gif Daddy (6/04) and energy.gifZ (5/10) make 3!  heartbeat.gif

My new business is in my sig line.  ;)

About my son: I feel we don't have definite answers. Hate not knowing for sure.

mamaofthree: Congrats on the pregnancy. Both of my kids came in February, and I think it's a great time to have a baby. If we have a fourth, I'll shoot for another late winter baby. For the fall equinox, we will go apple picking, plant our bulbs, and probably make this: http://www.thekitchn.com/-best-pie-bakeoff-2008-entry-1-10-69632

Wolf: Man, what a rough stretch! I hope things go better for you and your kids!

Siddal: Yay on the house!!!

DoK: I hope the medical stuff for both you and your son goes well. How stressful!

Thistle: Congrats!!! And welcome little Alba!

Vy: Yay for your first delivery. That's great you have some connections with local doulas!

AFM: I freaking hate September. My husband worked last week, but his superintendent says he will sit at home (unpaid) until his arm heals. In the meantime, we got into a car crash, totaled the car, and had to replace it since three car seats won't even fit in my husband's car. His car is now at the shop, and I worry about a big car bill we can't afford right now. Plus my oldest desperately needs clothes, I still don't have everything we need for the baby, etc.. I am so stressed out about money. I keep repeating to myself this Wendell Berry poem:

The Peace of Wild Things

When despair for the world grows in me
and I wake in the night at the least sound
in fear of what my life and my children's lives may be,
I go and lie down where the wood drake
rests in his beauty on the water, and the great heron feeds.
I come into the peace of wild things
who do not tax their lives with forethought
of grief. I come into the presence of still water.
And I feel above me the day-blind stars
waiting with their light. For a time
I rest in the grace of the world, and am free.

— Wendell Berry

Hi friend!!  LOL at pear butter.  It does sound yummy.  I don't have any plans for the equinox but that's nothing new.  Would love to start getting together with other pagans again.  It's been years.
