You can died without being baptized and be with Jesus. The man on the cross died w/o being baptized. If you are a believe I think that you want to be baptized.

Well, their is more snow coming. When will it stop? When will it melt? Crazy

I think the man on the cross was an exception. He had no possible way to be baptized. So that shows God has mercy on someone who repents on their death bed. I believe it is a comandment to be baptized, look up Mark 16:16. There's another one that says you must be born of the *water* and of the spirit, which shows that baptism and being filled with the Holy Spirit are seprate occurences. There's yet another verse (I can look up the addresses of these if need be, but IDK them off the top of my head) it says simply believing is not enough, even Satan and the demons believe, they're not spending eternity with Christ. I really don't believe that baptism is optional.

Tongues most definitely is a manifestation of the Holy Spirit. Just like any gift it has the potential to be abused. I think that's why it gets so misconstrued. I personally haven't spoken in tongues yet, DH does regularly.

I went ahead and looked those up anyway.
Mark 16:16 "He who believes and is baptized will be saved."

John 3:5 " Jesus answered, 'Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of the water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter the Kingdom of God."

James 2:19&20 "You believe that there is one God. You do well. Even the demons believe - and tremble!.... faith without works is dead."

Sorry, don't mean to be rude. I'm just very passionate about contending for the Faith.

And I really like Matt Maher https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IExdrZGQVeI

Chunk-- I don't think that you are rude. I understand your point. I think that their are times were people can not be baptized. If that is the case they are saved. If they are "just not doing it" then yes they have a problem.

Good week so far. Someone let me borrow this book called "too long in the sun" Its about how SO much of what we accept in the church is rooted in pagan worship of the sun god. There's so much in there, I had no clue was pagan in origin. Like even the steeple most churches have on the roof was originally from ancient Egypt it was a ray of sun extending to the sun god. Crazy! Apparently the 4th century is when a lot of this stuff was accepted into the church. Before then they didn't celebrate Easter or Christmas. Those are pagan holidays that the church adopted. Theres so so so much I'm learning!

Sorry your DH was late Naz!

Where would you recommend trying to get ahold of that book? Amazon maybe?? They definitely don't sell books like that at the christian book store. Why would they, They make way too much money on the paganizing of the church!

I see the other side of it where I live. Maybe because I live in the bible belt...? There's literally a church on every corner. You would think, that with that much church, this area would be drastically different, but all they teach is grace and mercy. So people go to church and get patted on the back for living in sin! They leave church and feel justified to do whatever they want. Its madness! While were not justified by the law or works, faith without works is dead. Also Jesus said if you love Him you'll follow His commands. And we have to remember that God is the same yesterday, today, and forever

Mine just passed, Jan 22.

I hope I didn't offend or scare off our new friends! Naz and I like to talk about deeper stuff than your typical Jesus talk. Sometimes my opinions are really "out there" . I just pray you ladies would study on and prayerfully consider some of the differing views we mention.

I do think teachings on grace and mercy have their place and are healthy, but only when balanced with teachings on repentance and fearing the Lord. I think its far too easy to abuse grace if were not being presented with the *whole* truth. To me salvation is a daily practice. The Word says to work out your salvation with fear and trembling, die to yourself daily, deny yourself and bear your cross, those who endure to the end will be saved. The days when I think I've got it all figured out, the Lord reveals a whole new layer to His truth. Kicks my feet out from under me. I realize I know nothing. If I'm not dependant on Him as the Giver if each day, each step, and each breath, I'm in danger. That's called pride, and God opposes the proud.
Plus I often think of the parables like the wedding feast. Where Jesus says he never knew these people. But they rebuttal Him with "Lord did we not prophesy in your name? Did we not cast out demons in your name?......." These are "church people" people who thought they were saved, but they deceived themselves!
Then the parable of the 10 virgins. They all slumbered. But when they heard the bride groom coming they awoke. 5 were not prepared. They didn't have enough oil to sustain them. He's talking numbers here. Is He saying that half of those who claim to be His bride are really not!? IDK for sure. But I do know that I personally need to hear sobering teachings such as that to keep myself in check! Eternity is too much of a gamble in my mind to deceive myself because it feels good here and now.

I did a google search last night on a theological question. Of course the Word is the Authority but I like to get a feel of how the church on a whole is viewing something . One website I looked at said something like "If there is a verse that appears to contradict the basic message of the gospel we must reject that" I was like ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!?!!! That's saying I know everything about everything and this doesn't fit in the little box I made for God, so lets just get rid of it! Wow that's some serious pride! I feel bad for people who just buy this crap!

Sorry for ranting!

Well that's a relief! We have a lot that come and go... I just turned 28. But I feel SO much older. No one else my age has 4 kids or even a 10 year old. So we mostly hang with people who are between mid thirties to mid forties. Its cool we have more in common than with people our age. Its hard to find people in their twenties who aren't perpetually wasted!

I agree with some of what was said about there being a healthy balance but also I think so many churches push grace and mercy bc so many people have been burned with religious doctrine that they turn from the truth. So then I think churches in turn want to teach God's love. Religion is man made! We are saved by grace..... But we must also KNOW God and I think the only way to know him is to be filled the Holy spirit. You can be filled with all the knowledge of the bible you want but until the Holy Spirit enters you, it just doesn't make sense! It is even hard for me to witness to people sometimes bc I just can't explain it, but then other times the Holy Spirit puts all these words in me and it all pours out! Does any of that make sense? It's such a fine line, I think the key is just making time for HIM everyday. I am very guilty of not doing that. I need to take my own advice. 😋

Yep that makes perfect sense. Its a plum-line. And its very easy to miss. Getting too carried away with grace and getting too carried away with works! Yes religion is man made and Jesus hated religion!
The more I study the Word the more I realize that if we truly have faith there will be works and that results in us doing the will of the Father. Its so deep when you really get into it. Jesus taught a gospel of repentance. And so many times when He healed someone He said "You're healed, your sins are forgiven" or "You've been healed, go and sin no more" Faith is an action word.

Ok, I'm not saying legalistic religion. Not to point fingers but to me, that's what the catholics do. Its ALL about works.
I agree with that passage. Notice how Paul says "being dead in your trespasses..." in verse 12. When you're dead to something you don't dip back into it every once in awhile or when nobody's looking. Dead means dead. Also if my husband says he loves me, but does something that would hurt me over and over, than his view of love is twisted. So if I claim to love Christ, I want to try my hardest not to hurt Him. It becomes my desire to please Him, ya know.
And I'm definitely advocating deeper relationship with Christ which will bring you into alignment with God's will. Not aimlessly striving after works, because you cannot work your way into heaven. But rather producing good fruit because you are connected to The Vine of Life. If you abide in Christ I think it would be impossible to not be producing His fruit. Its a natural reaction.
My DH did a sermon on this topic once, it is an honor to bear fruit for Christ. He is sharing His glory with us.
