ARG, can you believe that I do not have a menu as yet myself.

I hate that! Are you looking for vegie food, or is meat ok? I was just brainstorming last night with the family about what foods do they think represent the sun. Dh said citrus and dd said lemons. I wouldn't have thought of either, so that was good. Just been braindead lately.

Let me know if you have any special dietary restrictions and I will figure something out. I need an excuse anyway, lol.

Just picked up a new vegie cookbook today too!

Arduinna said you might need some food ideas ...this was a list of potential solstice-feeling foods...apples are always wintry to me...baked apples too or dried apple cakes. Spiced wine or your cider. Dark beer.

sweet potatoor squash rounds? or even cookie cutter them or cut to make more sun-like.

Pizzelles (italian waffle cookies) have always seemed sunlike to me. They're yellow, too. I like heavily flavored with anisette rather than vanilla or aniseed or butter.

Oranges or Lemons or things featuring such.
Sunny side up eggs or hardboiled eggs
Pomegranates (nice with nuts)
Custardy things...someone mentioned hiding a peeled almond in rice pudding.

Oatcakes, well, cause I like them! I make a pancakey oatcake that's good with herbed cheese spread,, honey, jam or plain.

chinese bean cakes with yellow bean paste filling or pineapple buns.

if you eat meat, an animal traditionally butchered in fall like beef maybe German-style game recipes. Rather than lamb which is more springlike...or chicken - seems like a summer thing to me. For veggie, a white bean cassoulet-type dish with mushrooms maybe?

edited to fix the cut and paste repetition...

Thanks Clarity for coming to the rescue. I don't know what is going on with me. Maybe it AF beating me up? But I still haven't gotten a menu together. Barely read my new cookbook too.

I have a feeling I will doing some last minute shopping this year for food. I am usually much more organized. *hangs head*

ok, just got back from Wild Oat and now am inspired.

Menu so far:

Either Quiche or a Frittata with asparagus and bell pepper sliced and arranged like sun rays.

using eggs this time of year when they would be scarce traditionally because the hems stop laying with shorter days., as a sense of hope and faith that more will come with the lengthening days after Yule.

Patty pan (yellow scalloped squash) probably pan fried in butter or oil with seasons.

well shoot they look like suns, why not??

I will make mulled cider as I really like it.

still decidiing on other dishes, but I'm thinking rolls or biscuits if I do the frittata as they are crustless.

dessert, thinking apple crisp. they are season, warm and yummy.
