What is an appropriate gift for a baby being christened? Does it have to be a religiously themed gift, or is a more general new-baby gift ok? Thanks!

We are not religious, but have been to several Christenings of family and friends. I don't feel comfortable buying something religious, but always try to buy something a bit more precious than a regular baby gift, something lasting or especially beautiful. Usually I buy something silver and/or engraved--silver baby cup (my brother and I had these and still used them on holidays all through childhood when our relatives had fancy goblets), engraved silver rattle, silver pacifier clip, engraved Christmas tree ornaments, etc. I've already attended a baby shower for these babies, and sent a gift at the birth, so for a Christening I usually give something beautiful but maybe not as purely useful as the other occasions.

For my children, I received everything from books to a very pretty cross to put on their room walls.
