Thank you for that, that is the prayer my grandmother used to say when I was a child, I didn't know all the words. She is no longer alive, so it brings back memories.

We sang this prayer as a family:

For health and strength and daily food, we thank you Our Lord, Amen

I remember singing that! We sang it in Girl Scouts as a round. :

We say....."God is good, God is great, thank you for this food. Amen" Short and sweet.

Here's another one:

Give thanks to the Mother Gaia
Give thanks to the Father Sun
Give thanks for the plants in the garden
Where the Mother and the Father are one.
Give thanks,
Give thanks,
And again I say, give thanks!

The last three lines are optional.

And another:

Thanks to the bugs, the farmer and fruit.
Thanks to the sky, sun and root.
Thanks to the birds, seed and rain.
We give thanks to everything.

And another version of the previous one:

Thanks to the soil, the worm and grain
Thanks to the birds, the seed and rain.
Thanks to the bugs, the farmer and fruit.
Thanks to the sky, the sun and root.
Thank you for our food so good.
May all realize Buddhahood.

DH's grandfather came up with (or found?) this one that the family uses for special occasions.

Bless this house, Lord we pray.
Bless this food we eat today.
Keep us healthy, keep us free.
And we will give our praise to Thee.

DS has picked up singing "Hallelujah" repeatedly from somewhere, so he's been making us do that before we eat.

Earth, who gives to us this food
Sun, who makes it ripe and good,
Dear Earth, Dear Sun, by you we live
To you our loving thanks we give

One we use sometimes from the Book of Common Prayer:

Blessed are you, o Lord, for you give us food to sustain our bodies and make our hearts glad. Amen.

Thanks so much for all these ideas. I was just thinking about ways to incorporate some kind of blessing into our meal. I'm glad I found this.

I love that!

We use "A Grateful Heart: Daily Blessings for the Evening Meal from Buddha to the Beatles" by M. J. Ryan. It's got a little bit of everything.

This is what we used to say. It is filled with the feeling of great memories for me. :

We are a multireligious, multiethnic family. We used to say "God is great, God is good, etc...", but one day my older dd misunderstood what we were saying, and our grace evolved into this:

[We hold hands with the person next to us, and we shake hands to the beat of our chant]
God is great, God is good,
God is dancing in our food.

God is good, God is great,
God is dancing on our plate.

Amen. [then louder] AMEN!

Funny how a child's not understanding the words to our old grace became something that reflects the common thread in our spiritual hearts: that God is everything, everywhere, including our food, and is instrumental in our food getting to us, and God has a good sense of humor and affection for us.

We say this at mealtime:

Earth we thank you for this food,
For Rest and home and all things good.
For wind and rain and Sun above
But most of all for those we love.

We have this: https://www.episcopalbookstore.com/P...ProductID=2974 and we love it.

Its a wooden cube with a different grace on each face. Our rule is that the first child to the table gets to roll for grace -- encourages both kids to come the first time dinner is called.

I love this... It's a great thread!

We say:

Dear God
Our hands we fold,
Our heads we bow,
For food and drink,
We thank Thee now.
Amen
